Last weekend, Cucine Lube Civitanova got really close to upsetting reigning club world champions and defending Italian champions Sir Susa Vim Perugia in Perugia. They lost, but even the two sets they took away pulled the powerful opponent down to second place. Now, playing at home, Lube will try to do even better against the new table leaders from Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza. The match opens Sunday’s programme at 16:00 local time (15:00 UTC). Gas Sales lead the pack on 17 points and a 6-0 win-loss record, while Lube are in fifth place on 10 and 3-3. The club from Civitanova, however, convincingly leads the head-to-head record against the club from Piacenza. Lube have won 11 of the 13 previous encounters with Gas Sales.

“A very tough test is coming up. Gas Sales have won all the matches, showing a good level and alternating the athletes depending on the situation. We are coming off a dramatic match in Perugia. Now a great match awaits us at the Eurosuole Forum against Piacenza. Since the beginning of the season we have played really well at home and we want to continue doing so by taking advantage of the crowd factor, which is very important for us.” Mattia Bottolo, outside hitter of Cucine Lube Civitanova
“With every game the bar is raised and we also have to improve in some things like reception and coverage to put the ball closer to the net. With Lube we will have to suffer because we are facing a well-built team. We are working well, our growth path is continuing.” Andrea Anastasi, head coach of Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza

The week’s programme offers two matches ahead of the big competition day on Sunday. In both, last season’s bronze medallists Allianz Milan, currently in ninth place on 6 and 2-4, are the hosts. On Thursday evening, at 20:00 (19:00), they welcome Cisterna Volley, who are second from the bottom, in 11th place on 4 and 1-5, in an advanced fixture of the 10th leg. Two days later, on Friday at 18:00 (17:00), winless SuperLega newcomers Yuasa Battery Grottazzolina, who are trailing bottom of the table, in 12th place on 2 and 0-6, will visit the Allianz Cloud, searching for their first win in Italy’s top division.

Cisterna, on the other hand, will travel to sixth-placed Valsa Group Modena for their seventh-leg game. Modena, who are on 8 and 3-3, will entertain their visitors on Sunday at 18:00 (17:00).

At the same time, reigning European champions Itas Trentino Trento, placed third on 15 and 5-1, will host neighbours in the table Rana Verona, placed fourth on 12 and 4-2.

An hour earlier, at 17:00 (18:00), seventh-placed Sonepar Padova Padua (7, 2-4) will welcome last season’s runners-up Mint Vero Volley Monza, who have been struggling a bit this season and are running 10th on 4 and 2-4.

The SuperLega week will close with a match between Gioiella Prisma Taranto and Sir Susa Vim Perugia, starting at 19:00 (18:00) on Sunday evening. The home team stands eighth on 7 and 2-4, while the unbeaten champions are in second place on 16 and 6-0.
