Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza are currently fourth in the table on 35 points and a 12-5 win-loss record. There is no rest for Cucine Lube Civitanova after their Coppa Italia triumph last Sunday. They already had another victorious challenge in Europe’s CEV Challenge Cup at home on Wednesday, extending their winning streak to eight games across all competitions. In the SuperLega table, Lube are in third place on 36 and 11-5 with a game in hand.
In November’s first meeting with Gas Sales this season, Lube mastered a clean sweep at home, thus improving their lead in the all-time head-to-head series between the two clubs to 12-2.

Starting at the same time on Sunday, Rana Verona will welcome Itas Trentino Trento, hoping to use the momentum from their historic success last weekend when they dethroned mighty Sir Susa Vim Perugia to reach the Coppa Italia final and pushed the champions-to-be to five sets before folding. Verona stand fifth in the SuperLega table on 30 and 10-7, while Trentino, who were upset by Lube in the Italy Cup semifinals, occupy second place on 40 and 14-2 with a game in hand.
Verona took a set off the opponents when they visited them in Trento during the first half of the season, but will now face them at home, thirsty for more. Historically, Verona and Trentino have met 48 times, with the reigning European champions leading the series by 35-13 in wins.
“We are facing a match against one of the strongest teams in Italy, which now also has the chance to aim for first place. It will be a complicated match and as usual we must give it our all on the court. What the cup final showed us was that the things we have been saying for two years are real, that is, that the club wants to fight for the top spots and the path taken is the right one.” Radostin Stoytchev, head coach of Rana Verona
Next on Super Sunday’s programme, at 17:00 (16:00), is Mint Vero Volley Monza’s home game against Sonepar Padova Padua, important in both the fight for survival and the quest for the playoff spots. Last year’s silver medallists Vero Volley are in desperate need of wins and points to improve their grim situation, stuck to the bottom of the table, in 12th place on 10 and 4-13. Padova, on the other hand, are just two points below the cut-off for the playoffs, in ninth place on 15 and 4-12 with a game in hand, but also just five points above the relegation spot. Each of the two sides is on a three-game losing streak in the SuperLega, but Vero Volley arrive at the match on a high note after winning their CEV Champions League pool this week and advancing to the quarterfinals. Their first match in the fall in Padua went 3-0 Padova’s way.
Defending champions and table leaders Sir Susa Vim Perugia need to turn their fortunes after losing four of their five most recent matches across all competitions. Their home game against Gioiella Prisma Taranto on Sunday at 18:00 (17:00) presents an opportunity for the Block Devils to get back on the winning track. They are still up in first place on 42 and 15-2, while Prisma are in the hot zone just above the relegation cut-off, in 11th place on 13 and 4-13. But other than fighting for survival, the squad from Taranto even has a shot at the playoff spots as they are only four points away.

That applies to trending Yuasa Battery Grottazzolina too. The SuperLega rookies are also in the running for the playoffs, but at the same time far from being safe from relegation. They are in 10th place on 15 and 4-13 before their home game against Allianz Milan on Sunday at 18:00 (17:00). Last season’s bronze medallists are running sixth in the table on 29 and 10-7, at a comfortable 12-point distance from the cut-off line for the playoffs. In November, Grottazzolina managed to take a set from their visit to Milan.
The 18th leg will be closed by the match between Cisterna Volley and Valsa Group Modena, starting at 19:00 (18:00). Neighbours in the table, both teams are currently within the playoff zone, but well in danger of falling off the edge. Hosts Cisterna are in eighth place on 17 and 6-10 with a game in hand, while their visitors from Modena are seventh on 18 and 6-11. Their match in Modena in November was decided in favour of Cisterna after a five-set battle.
