The third leg of the Italian men’s SuperLega Credem Banca regular season will take place on Saturday and Sunday, with high-level clashes between top-five teams in both the opening and the closing matches of the weekend, and of course with lots of more great action in between.

The leg will start on Saturday at 18:00 local time (16:00 UTC) with a duel between the stellar squads of Valsa Group Modena and reigning club world champions and defending Italian champions Sir Susa Vim Perugia. The hosts are currently fourth in the current standings on 3 points and a 1-1 win-loss record, while the visitors from Perugia are one of the three still undefeated teams in the SuperLega, standing third on 5 and 2-0.

It will be the 49th meeting between the two clubs. Sir have won 28, while Modena celebrated in 20 of the previous encounters. The Block Devils are on a nine-match winning streak in the head-to-head series, with Modena’s most recent win over Sir dating back to April 2022.

“Now we have two tough matches ahead of us and so we need to be ready to fight hard and take advantage of the right opportunities when they come. We are working every day to grow. We are ready for battle. We will be the underdogs and we will try to give our all to bring home a positive result.” Tommaso Rinaldi, outside hitter of Valsa Group Modena
“Modena are a team that won't give us many breaks, so we should be good at taking advantage of every single opportunity that we manage to get. There probably won't be many, so we'll have to be good at making the right choices. They have excellent hitters, who will naturally push even more at home and this will also be one of the keys to the match. And Luciano De Cecco will be there and therefore it will be complicated to always read him.” Massimo Colaci, libero of Sir Susa Vim Perugia

On Sunday evening, the leg will close with a game between Allianz Milan and reigning European champions Itas Trentino Trento, a remake of last season’s bronze medal match-up, won by Allianz. The home team is in fifth place on 3 and 1-1, while their opponents from Trento are the current table leaders on 6 and 2-0.

Allianz have won only six of the previous 28 encounters with Trentino, but that number includes the three most recent matches between the two clubs, with which the squad from Milan turned the third-place series in April around after losing the opening game. In an attempt to continue this winning streak, they will welcome the mighty opponents to the Allianz Cloud on Sunday at 19:00 (17:00).

“The match against Trento is always an important one. On Sunday we can meet last year's European champion and it will be a test, not only for the (Italian) championship, but also to see how far we can get in Europe. I expect a good response from the crowd. Then, you know, for me it's not a match like all the others, but also a moment to meet up with old teammates and friends. But this - only after the last ball has fallen!” Matey Kaziyski, outside hitter of Allianz Milan
“I am happy to return to play in Milan. I spent five important years of my career there and I grew together with the club achieving important results, like winning a European cup. It will be a difficult match, in which we will have to raise the bar of the level of our game and that we will have to face in the best way to try to obtain another victory.” Nicola Pesaresi, libero of Itas Trentino Trento

In a Saturday evening match, starting at 20:30 (18:30), SuperLega rookies Yuasa Battery Grottazzolina will host Rana Verona. The home team is still winless at the bottom of the table, in 12th place, but not without a point, after putting up a five-set battle in their home debut against silver medallists Mint Vero Volley Monza. Rana Verona are in eighth place on 2 and 1-1.

Sunday’s action will open at 16:00 (14:00) with a big game between Cucine Lube Civitanova and Mint Vero Volley Monza. Hosts Lube are seventh on 3 and 1-1, while Vero Volley are ninth on 2 and 1-1.

Sixth-placed Gioiella Prisma Taranto (3, 1-1) will welcome 10th-placed Sonepar Padua (1, 0-2) at 17:00 (15:00) on Sunday. An hour later, the first whistle of Cisterna Volley‘s home game against Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza will be blown. Cisterna are winless in 11th place on 1 point, while Gas Sales are unbeaten in second place on 6 points.
