One of the strongest teams in the country, ŁKS Commercecon Łódź, which signed Paris 2024 Olympians Natalia Mędrzyk and Maria Stenzel in the offseason, were surprised by last year’s 11th-placed Metalkas Pałac Bydgoszcz, which triumphed 3-2 (25-20, 13-25, 23-25, 25-21,15-13) when the teams met on Friday.

Pałak’s setter Marta Łyczakowska had a great performance, helping four hitters end the match with double digits in scoring – Serbian opposite Milana Rajlić (18), outside hitter and match MVP Pola Nowakowska (18) and middle blockers Wiktoria Paluszkiewicz (16) and Svitlana Dorsman (15).

ŁKS Łódź had the match’s top scorer in 20-year-old Ukrainian opposite Anastasiia Hryshchuk, who registered 20 points – middle blocker Anna Obiała came next, with 16.

Radomka beat the defending champions

On Sunday, another upset took place when MOYA Radomka Radom went on the road and topped defending champions Lotto Chemik Police in four sets (25-15, 28-26, 27-29, 25-20).

The team’s surprising victory was facilitated by an excellent performance by 22-year-old Bulgarian outside hitter Maria Yordanova, who left the court with 23 points and was awarded as the match MVP. Serbian opposite Milka Stijepić contributed another 16 for the winners.
