The Tauron Liga season officially started last week, with six matches. The second leg began on Thursday, with KS DevelopRes Rzeszów sweeping Sokół & Hagric Mogilno, and another duel was postponed, meaning that four matches are still set to take place between Friday and Monday and all of them will be available on VBTV.
Here's all you need to know about them:
Friday
Metalkas Pałac Bydgoszcz vs. ŁKS Commercecon Łódź - 17:30 local time (15:30 GMT)
The first team above the relegation line last season, when they finished 11th, Metalkas Pałac Bydgoszcz aim to have a smoother ride in the Polish elite in 2024-2025. Their opening match wasn't very promising as they fell to UNI Opole in four sets on the road, but they expect to start turning things around in their first home match. Pałac went to the international market to build their roster this year, bringing Serbians Milana Rajlić (opposite) and Jovana Steković (outside hitter), Kazakhstan's setter Kseniya Kuryerova and Ukrainian middle blocker Svitlana Dorsman.
Their opponents ŁKS Commercecon Łódź had a strong start to their season, sweeping #VolleyWrocław in their opening match last Tuesday. After missing out on the podium in the Tauron Liga for the first time since the 2016-2017 season in their last campaign, the team made some changes in the roster and signed several players, including two Polish Olympians in outside hitter Natalia Mędrzyk and libero Maria Stenzel.
Saturday
PGE Grot Budowlani Łódź vs. Energa MKS Kalisz - 12:30 local time (10:30 GMT)
Another team from Łódź, PGE Grot Budowlani started the Tauron Liga on the right foot, sweeping ITA TOOLS STAL Mielec on the road. The fourth-placed team last year, they have a solid core formed by international players with Serbian outside hitter Jelena Blagojević, Italian opposite Terry Enweonwu and Slovenian middle blocker Saša Planinšec.
Energa MKS Kalisz started their campaign with a defeat, but it was still a promising result for the four-time national champions, who were eighth last year, as they pushed defending champions Lotto Chemik Police to the tie-breaker with an almost entirely new team. Among their offseason signings are two international outside hitters - Belarusian Daria Boris and Czech Klára Dítě -, as well as local Polish talent in setter Gabriela Makarowska-Kulej.
Sunday
LOTTO Chemik Police vs. MOYA Radomka Radom - 20:30 local time (18:30 GMT)
Defending champions Lotto Chemik Police started their title defense with a hard-fought, five-set win over Energa MKS Kalisz and will now play in front of their home fans. It will be a chance for their supporters to see the new team, which features Polish youth internationals, such as opposite Julia Hewelt and outside hitter Anna Fiedorowicz, and experienced players, including middle blocker Ewa Kwiatkowska and libero Agata Nowak.
Their opponents MOYA Radomka Radom, who were sixth last year, also played a five-setter, but were on the wrong side of it, falling to KS DevelopRes Rzeszów at home. Argentinean setter Victoria Mayer is one of their stars, alongside Polish national team middle blocker Kamila Witkowska and Croatian outside hitter Laura Miloš.
Monday
ITA TOOLS STAL Mielec vs. #VolleyWrocław - 19:00 local time (17:00 GMT)
Last year's ninth-placed ITA TOOLS STAL Mielec had a difficult start to their season, losing to PGE Grot Budowlani Łódź in straight sets on the road. With a roster formed entirely of Polish players, they have setter Pola Janicka, middle blocker Gabriela Ponikowska and outside hitter Zuzanna Kuligowska as their main offseason additions.
