Fans' support key for Argentina in VNL

Lausanne, Switzerland, May 10, 2018 - The Argentine Volleyball Fedration presented the men's National Team programme to the media, ahead of the opening of the inaugural Volleyball Nations League, in which the South American also hosts one of the preliminary round pools.

Argentina fly to Ningbo in China where they play the hosts, Bulgaria and USA on the opening weekend of the brand new competition, 25-27 May, before retruning home to host Canada, Iran and Italy at San Juan, where the presentation of the season was made this week.

Meanwhile, Argentina beat China 3-1 (25-20, 20-25, 25-20, 25-22) in a friendly game on Wednesday at Cordoba, as both teams prepare for the opening weekend.

The launch press conference was attended by the Governor of the province, Sergio Unac; the Sports State Secretary, Jorge Chica; the coach of the Argentine National Team, Julio Velasco; the FeVA President, Juan Antonio Gutierrez; the President of the San Juan Volleyball Federation, Juan Galeote; and the General Secretary of UPCN San Juan and director of UPCN Volley, Jose Villa.

Governor Unac stressed the province's commitment to sports and highlighted that the tickets' return will be invested in clubs' infrastructure, something also remarked by the President of the FSV, Juan Galeote.

Velasco and President Gutierrez agreed on the importance of the fans' support, not only with the Argentine National Team, but also in club competitions, underlining the importance of accompanying all the activities so that the sport grows constantly.

"We talked to the Governor and our idea is to apply San Juan again next year for this important tournament and show. Of course we celebrate the benefit for the volleyball clubs," emphasized Gutierrez.

The 'Aldo Cantoni' venue in San Juan hosted the World League on 7 occasions, the last in 2009.

Argentina will face the Olympic runners-up Italy; Canada, bronze medallists in the last World League; and the always defiant Iran that played the Olympic Games for the first time in its history at Rio 2016. A fact to emphasize is that the 4 national teams are among the 8 best in the world ranking.
