Nanjing is the capital of China's Jiangsu Province, situated in the Yangtze River Delta, with a population of just more than 30 million in the metropolitan area. It is a major Centre of culture, education, research, politics, economy, transport networks and tourism and the home to one of the world's largest inland ports. The city and greater area, known for its natural beauty, attracts millions of tourists annually.
A major sporting hub and home to major league teams in several sports, Nanjing has hosted the 2005 National Games of China and the 2014 Summer Youth Olympic Games.
