ŁKS Commercecon Łódź jumped to the top of the table in the Polish Women’s Tauron Liga this weekend, during the seventh leg of the regular season in the country.

With then-leaders PGE Grot Budowlani Łódź out of action this weekend (their match against BKS BOSTIK ZGO Bielsko-Biała will be held in December), Commercecon and KS DevelopRes Rzeszów didn’t waste the opportunity, winning their matches and moving up to first and second in the standings.

Commercecon had the same 16 points as Budowlani entering the seventh leg and have now built a three-point lead on their crosstown rivals after they topped 12th-placed Sokół & Hagric Mogilno 3-1 (25-15, 25-21, 25-27, 25-18) - the result elevated their total to 19 (six wins, one loss).

Ukrainian opposite Anastasiia Hryshchuk led Commercecon’s offense with 23 points (19 kills, two blocks, two aces) and was the match’s MVP, but the team also got solid contributions from Slovenian outside hitter Lana Ščuka (16), Polish national team outside hitter Zuzanna Górecka (15) and middle blocker Sonia Stefanik (13).

DevelopRes sweep Energa

The only undefeated team in the Polish League, DevelopRes also passed Budowlani, going from 15 to 18 points (seven wins), after they swept eighth-placed Energa MKS Kalisz 3-0 (25-22, 25-15, 25-13) on Saturday.

Brazilian opposite Bruna Honório and Cuban outside hitter Elizabeth Vicet led DevelopRes led the team with 16 points each and the Caribbean took home the match’s MVP award.

“We were all very happy that everyone got to play today,” Bruna said. “We all try always to be ready to get on the court. The coach has many options to pick from and whenever they send us to the court, we want to make the most of it.”
