Last season’s champions Sir Susa Vim Perugia will take on Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza in a best-of-three series. The first game will take place at the Barton Energy hall in Perugia on Tuesday, April 29, at 20:30 local time (18:30 UTC).

Sir finished the regular season in second place on 57 points and a 20-2 win-loss record. In the quarterfinals, they took out Valsa Group Modena in three wins, but in the semis, the Block Devils were upset by Lube after winning the first two matches, but losing the next three.

Gas Sales stood fifth on 39 and 13-9 in the final regular season table and went on to upset fourth-placed Rana Verona in three quarterfinal matches. In the semifinals, however, they fell down in three close games with regular season winners, FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship runners-up and reigning European champions Itas Trentino Trento.

At the start of the season, Sir beat Gas Sales in a four-set Supercoppa Italiana semifinal. They also won the two regular season fixtures with the rivals from Piacenza – 3-2 at home and 3-1 away. The all-time head-to-head record between the two clubs stands at 13-2 Sir’s way.

“Now we have to work towards an important goal that in my opinion is a nice novelty that gives a sense of closure to a season and, above all, gives a very important goal for next season. It is clear that the semifinal did not end many days ago and we must not pretend to be ‘supermen’. We are moving towards another goal, but also with that sense of bitterness that must be lived and gone through.” Angelo Lorenzetti, head coach of Sir Susa Vim Perugia
“We knew well, even before the fifth game between Perugia and Civitanova, that we would face a great team in the final for the third place. We will have Perugia in front of us and we are working, above all, to improve the situations that we did not do well against Trento and that cost us dearly. We are excited. The goal of playing in Europe next year has been achieved, but participating in the most important competition is what the club wants, our fans want it, but above all, we want it!” Gianluca Galassi, middle blocker of Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza
