Outside hitters Aaron Russell and Bartosz Kwolek combined to produce 32 points in the Polish victory

Poland's Aluron CMC Warta Zawierce were on the right side in the dramatic five-set battle that ended the first day of matches at the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Men's Club World Championship and earned their first victory in the tournament held in Belém, Brazil, on Tuesday.

The CEV Champions League runners-up faced hosts Vôlei Renata Campinas at the Manguerinho Arena and were slightly better in a match of many turnarounds to come on top and win 3-2 (25-19, 25-27, 25-19, 20-25, 16-14), silencing the Brazilian crowd.

Making their debut in the Club World Championship this week, Warta Zawiercie earned two points with their victory and appear in second place in the Pool A standings, behind Brazil's Praia Clube, who collected three points with their sweep of Qatar's Al-Rayyan Sports Club earlier on Tuesday. With one point, Campinas are third.

A Club World Championship winner with Italian side Itas Trentino in 2018, Aaron Russell split Warta Zawiercie's scoring load with Bartłomiej Bołądź. Each of them got 19 points, with the American outside hitter registering 16 kills, two blocks and one ace and the Polish Olympic medalist opposite tallying 18 kills and one block. Outside hitter Bartosz Kwolek left the court with 13 points, one more than team captain and world champion middle blocker Mateusz Bieniek.

Campinas saw Brazilian national team outside hitter Adriano Xavier step up to lead the team with 17 points (14 kills, two blocks, one ace). Fellow Brazilian national team middle blocker Judson Nunes added 13, the same production delivered by opposite Newton 'Acerola' Fernandes off the bench.

On Wednesday, the second day of Pool A matches in Belém, Warta Zawiercie will chase their second victory against Al-Rayyan at 17:00 local time (20:00 UTC), while Brazilian rivals Campinas and Praia clash at 20:30 (23:30 UTC).

Before that, Pool B will have its second round of matches, with Brazil's Sada Cruzeiro getting the day started against Libya's Swehly Sports Club at 10:00 (13:00 UTC) and Italy's Sir Sicoma Monini Perugia and Japan's Osaka Bluteon meeting at 13:30 (16:30 UTC).
