Reigning European champions Itas Trentino will take all of their stars to Uberlândia, where they will try to secure their sixth world title, including their trio of world champions formed by outside hitters Alessandro Michieletto and Daniele Lavia and setter Riccardo Sbertoli.

Fellow Italians Cucine Lube Civitanova, who lifted the trophy in 2019, will return to the tournament for the first time since 2022 having French two-time Olympic champion middle blocker Barthélémy Chinenyeze, Italian world champion libero Fabio Balaso and Bulgarian rising star outside hitter Aleksandar Nikolov as their most popular faces.

Led by their Olympic champion trio of opposite Wallace de Souza, middle blocker Lucas Saatkamp and outside hitter Douglas Souza, four-time world champions Sada Cruzeiro will carry most of Brazil’s hopes of keeping the trophy in the country.

This year, they will be joined by hosts Praia Clube, who are following on the footsteps of the club’s successful women’s team and are an emerging force in Brazil. Praia will have the experience of former Brazilian national team players Lucas Lóh and Franco Paese in their squad and also count on one of the most promising young players in the country, 20-year-old, 2.18m-tall outside hitter Maicon França.

Conte pondering comeback

Completing the list of South American representatives, Argentina’s Ciudad Voley will compete for the world title for the first time in club history. They have veteran setter Demián Gonźalez and longtime Argentinean national team outside hitter Nicolás Lazo as their most popular faces and also have rising star opposite Germán Gómez as a weapon. Ciudad could have a last-minute, game-changing addition to their roster as, after announcing his retirement at the Paris Olympics, star outside hitter Facundo Conte returned to the team to play a few matches in the country’s national league and didn’t rule out appearing in the Club World Championship.

Like Italy and Brazil, Iran will also have two teams in the tournament, including reigning Asian champions Foolad Sirjan Iranian, who ranked sixth in 2021. Some of their key players are national team regulars Amirhossein Esfandiar, Ali Ramezani and Seyed Mousavi.

Their opponents in the continental final, Shahdab Yazd will appear in the Club World Championship for the first time having Cuban national team middle blocker Javier Concepción, veteran Iranian opposite Amir Ghafour and middle blocker Masoud Gholami as their main weapons.

African representatives Al Ahly SC are back in the Club World Championship for the first time since 2015. Some of their stars include Egyptian national team setter Hossam Adballa, towering middle blocker Mohamed Osman Elhaddad and longtime Cuban national team libero Yonder García.

Men's Club World Championship - Match Schedule

The teams were split into two pools for the preliminary phase of the tournament, with Lube, Praia, Foolad and Al Ahly forming Pool A and Trentino, Sada, Ciudad and Shahdab joining Pool B. The top two teams in each pool will advance to the semifinals, with the winners meeting in the gold medal match.
