With the victory in the opening match of Pool A, Praia earned their first three points in the tournament, getting one step closer to advancing to the semifinals. The other two teams in the pool will play later today, with fellow Brazilians Vôlei Renata Campinas meeting Poland's Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie at 20:30 local time (23:30 UTC).
A member of the Praia squad that competed in the 2024 edition of the Club World Championship in Uberlândia, veteran opposite Franco Paese had a major role in their victory over Al-Rayyan. The 35-year-old was Praia's main scoring option in the match, and left the court with 18 points (17 kills, one block).
Paulo Vinicios da Silva and Pietro Santos also got to double digits in scoring, with the 24-year-old outside hitter getting to 11 points with six kills, three aces and two blocks, and the 24-year-old middle blocker adding ten, with six kills, three aces and one block.
Dominated in their opening match in Brazil, the Qatari had Hungarian outside hitter Roland Gergye producing 11 points (ten kills, one block) and team captain and opposite Mubarak Hammad contributing ten (eight kills, one block, one ace).

In the second round of pool play, on Wednesday, Al-Rayyan will play Warta Zawiercie at 17:00 local time (20:00 UTC), while Praia face Brazilian rivals Campinas at 20:30 (23:30 UTC).
