The opposite fired 27 points in a five-set win over Roma

The second leg of the 2023-2024 Lega Pallavolo Femminile Serie A Tigotà started on Tuesday and Megabox Ondulati Savio Vallefoglia began the final half of the regular season on the right foot.
The team from the country’s Eastern region secured a dramatic five-set win over Roma Volley Club and gained one spot in the standings, going up to eighth place and entering the qualification zone for the playoffs.
Vallefoglia, who entered Tuesday’s encounter on a two-match winless streak, started well, winning the first two sets, but saw Roma even the score before dominating the tie-breaker to secure a 3-2 (37-35, 25-18, 16-25, 17-25, 15-4) victory.
Opposite Camilla Mingardi played a big role in Vallefoglia’s victory, producing a match-high 27 points, with 24 kills, two aces and one block. Outside hitter Alice Degradi added another 17, including four in the tie-breaker.
“It was a very tough match,” Mingardi reflected. “We did a very good job in the first two sets, but after that, I felt that our game declined both technically and physically. Luckily we recovered and found our game in the tie-breaker. Roma are a very strong team on defense and they never gave up. There were several rallies and I think the fans had a lot of fun.”
With the triumph, Vallefoglia earned two points, elevating their season total to 18 (six wins, eight losses) and overcoming Il Bisonte Firenze, who remained at 16 (six wins, eight losses) after their 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-18) loss against Savino Del Bene Scandicci.
Also on Tuesday, star opposite Paola Egonu had her third most productive match of the season and helped Allianz Vero Volley Milano beat Uyba Volley Busto Arsizio 3-1 (30-28, 17-25, 25-15, 25-17) and continue in second place with 37 points (13 wins, one loss).
Egonu left the court with an impressive 29 points and was effective in every skill, registering 20 kills, five blocks and four aces.
“Busto played a good game, but we could have done much better,” she said. “I’m happy that we were able to come back and take the three points, but we still have a lot to improve and we’ll fight Imoco point by point.”
League leaders Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano also triumphed, overcoming Itas Trentino 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-21) and preserving their four-point lead at the top of the standings with 41 (14 wins).
Also on Tuesday, Igor Gorgonzola Novara beat Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri 3-1 (25-19, 26-24, 23-25, 25-18), Volley Bergamo 1991 topped Trasportipesanti Casalmaggiore 3-1 (25-23, 25-19, 19-25, 25-18) and Honda Olivero S. Bernardo Cuneo secured a 3-2 (20-25, 25-13, 23-25, 25-22, 17-15) win over Wash4Green Pinerolo.
The Italian League will now have a ten-day break until the second round of the second leg, which will have three matches on January 6 and four the next day.
