The Christmas break will be very short for Italian teams as the second leg of the 2023-2024 Lega Pallavolo Femminile Serie A Tigotà begins on Tuesday, with seven matches taking place around the country.

The same duels that were held on the opening weekend of the season at the start of October will now repeat, all starting at 17:00 local time (16:00 GMT), with the teams that played on the road more than two months ago now hosting their opponents.

The duel between fourth-placed Igor Gorgonzola Novara and fifth-placed Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri tends to be the most exciting among the ones set to be held on Tuesday, with the two teams separated by just five points (30 to 25) and one spot in the standings.

“I expect a very tough match,” Novara's middle blocker Anna Danesi reflected. “From our side, I think it will be important to start well and then to keep a good level throughout the match. Playing at home is always an advantage, but Chieri are a very strong and confident team, so we can't take it for granted.”

In the first leg, Novara were dominant, getting a sweep, but Chieri have won their last two matches and could close the gap to the team ranked right above them with a road win.

Another duel that could have major implications in the standings is the one involving Roma Volley Club and Megabox Ondulati Savio Vallefoglia as the two sides are separated by just one point and two positions, with the team from the Italian capital ranking seventh with 17 points and their opponents coming right behind in ninth with 16.

The two sides featured in arguably the most exciting match of the opening week of the Lega Femminile this season, with Roma grinding to secure a 3-2 road win which was the first victory in club history in the Italian elite.

Defending champions and league leaders Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano will be on the road against 14th-placed Itas Trentino while second-placed Allianz Vero Volley Milano will also have to travel to face Uyba Volley Busto Arsizio.

“I’ve been asking the team to not lose focus before the little break we’re going to have at the end of the year,” Imoco’s head coach Daniele Santarelli said. “We have big goals for the season and accomplishing them heavily depends on the work we do every day to get better. We’re not targeting this moment, but building the foundation to be successful at the end of the season. Trentino will do whatever they can to gain some ground on the teams above them, so this could be a tricky match for us.”
