Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza v Rana Verona

Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza and Rana Verona will open the competition day at 16:00 local time (15:00 UTC). In theory, these are the two closest quarterfinal opponents, as they finished the regular season as neighbors in the final standings – Verona in fourth place and Gas Sales in fifth. The team from Piacenza defeated their hosts in Verona in a 3-1 (25-23, 23-25, 25-17, 25-20) first-leg game and took the lead in the series. Canadian outside Stephen Maar topped the match charts with 19 points. Gas Sales also widened their lead in the historic head-to-head record between the two clubs to 12-7 in match wins. In a surprise move, the Verona club announced on Thursday that Bulgarian head coach Radostin Stoytchev had resigned citing personal reasons. For the rest of the season, the team will be directed by Stoytchev’s assistant Dario Simoni.

“Game two was a match played with great authority on our part. We were good at reacting after the first set, in which we didn't start off well and we always had to chase Verona. We were very compact in the moments, in which our opponents were ahead and always played with courage to reduce the gap and win the sets. We started off on the right foot, but the series is still very long and we have to focus on game two. It will be another battle.” Yuri Romano, opposite of Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza
“A very complicated match awaits us on a difficult court against a great opponent like Piacenza, who has demonstrated its qualities. We are fully aware of our means and we are working hard to bring into the match what we do in training these days. It will be a challenge between two teams that want to achieve the best result and we will do everything to achieve this goal and restore the balance in the series. We are ready to give our all to obtain a positive result. It will take a great collective effort, right from the approach to the match, entering the court with the right determination and maintaining lucidity at all times.” Dario Simoni, head coach of Rana Verona
Allianz Milan v Cucine Lube Civitanova

Allianz Milan will try to double their lead against Cucine Lube Civitanova as they welcome their opponents for the second match of their playoff on Sunday at 17:00 (16:00). That was the other quarterfinal series, in which the lower seeded team managed to upset their hosts in the first match. Sixth-placed Allianz came back from a set down twice during their visit to third-placed Lube to emerge with a 3-2 (27-29, 25-23, 18-25, 25-23, 17-15) win, handing their rival the first loss at home this season. Allianz’s Belgian opposite Ferre Reggers was the best scorer of the match with 26 points. The reigning Coppa Italia laureates still enjoy a wide 22-9 lead in the all-time head-to-head series with Allianz.

“This is a new match. Game one was played at a high level in terms of the competitive phase by both teams, but there is room for improvement technically. Sometimes you just need to do a little better or make fewer mistakes than your opponent to win matches. There is no point in me addressing the public again, because I know that the Milanese fans know how to be the eighth, ninth and tenth player on the court. When there are matches like the one on Sunday, our fans always respond well and wholeheartedly.” Roberto Piazza, head coach of Allianz Milan
“It is not easy for us to deal with this reality, that is, to find ourselves behind both in the quarterfinals series and in the Challenge Cup final, but we have not lost our conviction. We have time to get back on track. It is important to analyze our mistakes in game one with Milan in view of Sunday. In the first match, the victory slipped away from us by a whisker since we wasted two match points. We will have to understand the moments better and it will be essential to raise the level of play in the key phases. The challenge will be tough, but we will be ready!” Mattia Bottolo, outside hitter of Cucine Lube Civitanova
Cisterna Volley v Itas Trentino Trento

Cisterna Volley are set for a historic match, their first ever playoff game at home. Well aware of their role as underdogs against mighty Itas Trentino Trento, they are also well aware that no result is surprising when it comes to the playoffs, so they are ready to enjoy the moment and possibly level the series as they entertain the reigning European champions on Sunday at 18:00 (17:00). In the first match, regular season winners Trentino mastered a 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-14) shutout of eighth-placed Cisterna at home, with a match-high 18 points from Luxembourgish opposite Kamil Rychlicki. Since the new Cisterna Volley club was founded in 2023, they have never been able to beat Trentino in the six games between the two clubs played so far.

“Game one was a difficult match, against a great opponent like Itas Trentino, who played very well. Trying to beat a great team is never easy, especially at their arena. Now we are all focused on game two, where we want to do well at our arena. All my thoughts are on the next match.” Alessandro Fanizza, setter of Cisterna Volley
“We are facing an opponent with two very experienced spikers, capable of putting us in difficulty. We actually suffered these characteristics in a significant way during the first set (of the first match) and in part of the second. We were good, but not perfect, as we could have exploited some situations better. But in the end we managed to take home all three sets.” Alessandro Michieletto, outside hitter of Itas Trentino Trento
Valsa Group Modena v Sir Susa Vim Perugia

Valsa Group Modena and Sir Susa Vim Perugia will close the second leg of the quarterfinals on Sunday with their game starting at 19:00 (18:00). Last Saturday at home, defending champions Sir came back from a set down to register a 3-1 (23-25, 32-30, 25-22, 25-18) victory over Modena, who finished the regular season in seventh place. Valsa Group’s Belarusian outside Uladzislau Davyskiba topped the match charts with 19 points. The all-time head-to-head between the two clubs now stands 32-20 in favor of the Block Devils.

“The playoffs represent the beginning of a new journey. We forget what was done before and every match is different from the other. We have to start again from the positive aspects of game one and try to do better in game two. We need to raise our level even more and give our all in front of our fans. We need to be more patient and I am confident we can make things difficult for Perugia and try to achieve the feat. I hope that the Pala Panini is full. I know what it means to play matches like this here and the push of our fans must give us extra help and motivation to achieve good results.” Simone Anzani, middle blocker of Valsa Group Modena
“The playoffs are different from the regular season and they are teaching us that every ball counts. We expect a tough match. They will play at home with their fans, who will push hard. At home, Modena will push even more with their serving as they have done every time they have played against us and I think we should be very tough in the side-out phase. We will go there to play our best volleyball and be focused on what we have to do on the court.” Wassim Ben Tara, opposite of Sir Susa Vim Perugia
