The United States will attempt to reverse the course against Poland when they meet in Pool C of the Volleyball Olympic Qualifying Tournament on September 23.

The European squad beat the United States in front of their home fans at Arlington in their last VNL encounter. The reigning Olympic champions are hoping to do the same in their rematch with the 2023 VNL bronze winners in Lodz at 17:30 local time (15:30 UTC).

USA are aiming to defend their Olympic title in Paris, but will have to go through Italy, Poland, Germany, Thailand, Colombia, Korea and Slovenia to clinch one of the two spots on offer in their group.

Their two encounters at the VNL resulted in a draw. USA won 3-2 in the first encounter, while Poland clinched bronze with the same scoreline in the second one. To be able to beat the European squad at the Olympic Qualifier, they have to bring in the same energy they had from their first VNL encounter where Annie Drews and Kelsey Robinson delivered on offense, recording 20 markers each.

Magdalena Stysiak was Poland’s hero in their second matchup with USA, scoring 23 points while four of her teammates also scored in double figures.

With the bronze medal win at the VNL and the home fans on their side, Poland have a fighting chance to secure a berth for Paris 2024, marking their return the Olympic Games since Beijing 2008. Prior to this, they won back-to-back bronze medals at Tokyo 1964 and Mexico 1968.
