Germany and Thailand are looking to bank on their youth in the women’s tournament of the Volleyball Olympic Qualifier, as they hunt for one of the two available spots in Pool C in Lodz, Poland.

These two squads are scheduled to meet on the opening day of the qualifier on September 16 at 14:30 local time (12:30 UTC).

Hopes are high for the Germans and the Thais in their campaign as they pin their hopes on their young players who could deliver a strong chance of reaching the Olympic stage.

At the VNL, these two teams have been the biggest revelations of the tournament in the last two seasons, each team making separate debuts in the final round of the 2022 and 2023 editions.

Thailand, led by their brave wing-hitters Ajcharaporn Kongyot, Chatchu-On Moksri and Pimpichaya Kokram, made it to the 2022 VNL Finals for the first time. Chatchu-On and Pimpichaya are in their early and mid-20s but are playing like their predecessors Onuma Sittirak and Malika Kanthong. With the addition of younger players Wipawee Srithong and Thanacha Sooksod, Thailand will set sail on a bright future.

Vital Heynen’s Germany, reloaded with many new standouts like 23-year-olds Camilla Weitzel and Lina Alsmeier and 22-year-olds Emilia Weske and Monique Strubbe, have shown a lot of promise in the frontline to support their top scorer, Hanna Orthmann.

These two sides’ last matchup was on June 14 in Brasilia, where the European side beat the Asian team in four sets. They are evenly matched up on defense, and although they also fare quite well in attacks, Germany had the advantage in blocks and aces.
