Czechia secured the most sensational victory of their Volleyball Nations League rookie campaign on Friday in Apeldoorn, and it couldn’t have happened in a better moment for them as their triumph over Türkiye has kept the Europeans alive in the race to qualify for the tournament’s Finals.
Beating the reigning European champions, who entered the match in third place in the FIVB World Rankings, alone would already have been a massive feat for the Czechs, but the fact that they did it after going down 25-4 in a record-setting third set made it even more incredible – they ended up triumphing 3-1 (25-22, 25-21, 4-25, 25-20) at the Omnisport Apeldoorn, starring in arguably the biggest upset of this year’s edition of the tournament.
