Giants Itambé Minas will be looking to maintain their excellent run of form in the 2025-2026 Brazilian Men's Superliga when the matches of the second leg of the second round of the regular season take place in the country between Wednesday and Thursday.

Undefeated in their last six matches, the Belo Horizonte side will play Joinville Vôlei on the road on Thursday, at 19:30 local time (22:30 UTC), looking to extend their winning streak in the tournament.

The winners of nine editions of the Superliga, Minas are currently in fourth place in the standings, with 22 points (seven wins, five losses). Ranking higher right now are only leaders Sada Cruzeiro, with 32 points, second-placed Vôlei Renata Campinas, with 30, and third-placed Praia Clube, with 26 - all three teams have ten wins and two losses.

Minas' current positioning, which would give them homecourt advantage in the first round of the playoffs, is very different than the one they had at the start of their campaign. With five losses in their first six matches, they were inside the relegation zone before starting the current run at the beginning of December and getting to fight in the upper half of the table instead.

A product of their highly-regarded youth system, 21-year-old opposite Samuel Neufeld has emerged as one of the main names in their reaction and is their leading scorer in the Superliga with 150 points. Bringing experience to the team are Iranian national team setter Javad Karimisouchelmaei and veteran middle blocker Michel Saraiva.

Their opponents Joinville have been fairly inconsistent throughout the season, accumulating three wins and nine losses to appear in 10th place, just outside the relegation zone, with 11 points. The team from Santa Catarina, which dropped its last two matches, has one of the most prolific scorers of the league in opposite Kauan Jaques, who ranks sixth in the entire Superliga with 196 points.

The teams met in the first round of the regular season in October and Joinville came out on top, triumphing in straight sets. Minas, however, won four of the six duels held since 2023.

Cruzeiro play SESI on Thursday

After getting back to the top of the Superliga standings on Saturday, defending champions Cruzeiro will return to action on Thursday, facing sixth-placed SESI Bauru on the road at 21:00 (00:00 UTC, Friday). On the same day, at 18:30 (21:30 UTC), Azulim Sicoob Aracoop Monte Carmelo meet 12th-placed JF Vôlei.
