After falling to Vôlei Renata Campinas in both the Brazilian Cup and the South American Championship finals and the two Brazilian Men's Superliga regular season matches this season, Sada Cruzeiro fought back and won the Superliga title on Sunday.

The Brazilian giants met for a fifth time in the season in a packed Ibirapuera stadium in the Superliga final and Cruzeiro delivered a dominant performance to win 3-0 (25-14, 27-25, 25-21) and celebrate their tenth national title.

The most successful team in the Brazilian Men's Superliga, Cruzeiro also won the tournament in 2011-2012, 2013-2014, 2014-2015, 2015-2016, 2016-2017, 2017-2018, 2021-2022, 2022-2023 and 2024-2025.

The team reached the mark of 60 trophies lifted since its inaugural season in 2006. The list of accolades includes five victories at the FIVB Volleyball Men's Club World Championship, eight at the Brazilian Cup, seven in the Supercup and 11 in the South American Championship.

Sunday's triumph in São Paulo also served as payback after Cruzeiro were denied two titles in 2025-2026, going down to Campinas at both the Brazilian Cup and the South American Championship.

"This team's winning record is just amazing," said middle blocker Lucas Saatkamp. "We lost two finals to Campinas this season, but they played at a very high level on both. Those upsets made us grow, and we understood that we couldn't afford to make mistakes in key moments this time."

Cruzeiro counted on 18 points (16 kills, two blocks) from opposite Welinton Oppenkoski, who earned the match's MVP award, to overcome Campinas in the final. Lucas, with 12 points (nine kills, three blocks), and outside hitter Rodriguinho Leão, who has been a part of eight of Cruzeiro's ten victories and scored 11 points (all in kills), also had big roles in the team's victory.

Outside hitter Adriano Xavier, who is set to play in the Italian League next season, scored ten points (all in kills) for Campinas, which had their most successful season to date in 2025-2026, winning the Brazilian Cup, the South American Championship and the São Paulo State Championship.

Lucas repeats as Superliga MVP

The Most Valuable Player in Cruzeiro's ninth Superliga victory last season, Lucas repeated in 2025-2026, winning the league's MVP award again. The 40-year-old Olympic champion ended the season with 273 points scored (181 kills, 62 blocks, 30 aces).

"We have incredible resources and a fantastic team behind us, and that makes a difference," he said. "This is one of the reasons why Cruzeiro has been able to remain at the top for so long. It's also one of the reasons why I signed three years ago and have been wanting to continue here. Their staff is extremely capable and that gives me longevity that I wouldn't have anywhere else."

The title was also historic for Lucas, who won the Superliga for the ninth time and matches longtime Cruzeiro libero Serginho Nogueira as the tournament's winningest player. The legendary middle blocker triumphed with Cimed (2007-2008, 2008-2009, 2009-2010), RJX (2012-2013), Taubaté (2018-2019, 2020-2021) and Cruzeiro (2022-2023, 2024-2025, 2025-2026).

The Superliga Dream Team also featured Cruzeiro's libero Alexandre Elias, Campinas' setter Bruno Rezende, outside hitter Adriano Xavier and middle blocker Judson Nunes, Itambé Minas' outside hitter Léo Lukas and Vôlei Guarulhos Bateubet's opposite Bryan Lucas, who also took home the tournament's Young Player of the Year award. Cruzeiro's Filipe Ferraz was picked as the Coach of the Year.
