Only five days after returning to the top of the 2025-2026 Brazilian Men's Superliga standings, defending champions Sada Cruzeiro managed to create a five-point separation from the rest of the field.

The Brazilian giants saw second-placed and former leaders Vôlei Renata Campinas drop their second-straight match on Wednesday and jumped on the opportunity, sweeping (25-23, 25-23, 25-22) SESI Bauru on the road on Thursday during the second leg of the second round of the regular season.

With the second leg of the regular season set to be completed on Sunday, with the duel reuniting Vôlei Guarulhos Bateubet and Suzano Vôlei, Cruzeiro now have 35 points, with 11 wins and two losses. Campinas continue with 30 points (ten wins, three losses) and are now closely pursued by Praia Clube, who got to 29 (11 wins, two losses).

Olympic champion outside hitter Douglas Souza led Cruzeiro to victory in Bauru, scoring a match-high 16 points (12 kills, four blocks) and earning the MVP award. Olympic champion middle blocker Lucas Saatkamp and outside hitter Rodriguinho Leão added ten each.

"I thought we had some ups and downs today," Douglas reflected. "But we did a good job of keeping a little cushion that helped us at the end of each set. Now we're looking forward to returning home, resting and preparing for the next matches."

SESI, who are sixth with 17 points (six wins, seven losses), got 14 points (ten kills, three blocks, one ace) from middle blocker Lucas Barreto and another 13 (12 kills, one block) from outside hitter Gabriel Vaccari.

Campinas fall to Goiás

On Wednesday, Campinas went on the road and fell to fifth-placed Saneago Goiás Vôlei for the second time in the season, going down in straight sets (25-22, 25-20, 25-23). Goiás' setter Cláudio Bento earned the MVP award, while opposite André Saliba fired 21 points (18 kills, three blocks).

Another remarkable result happened on Thursday, when tenth-placed Joinville Vôlei completed a reverse sweep to beat fourth-placed Itambé Minas 3-2 (23-25, 18-25, 28-26, 25-22, 15-12), ending their opponents' six-match winning streak.

The second leg of the second round of the regular season also had third-placed Praia beating 11th-placed Viapol Vôlei São José 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-18) on Wednesday and seventh-placed Azulim Sicoob Aracoop Monte Carmelo sweeping (29-27, 25-21, 25-21) 12th-placed JF Vôlei on Thursday.
