Brazilian national team outside hitter Adriano Xavier was one of the standouts of Vôlei Renata’s victory over Saneago Goiás Vôlei on Sunday, in the opening match of the 2024-2025 Brazilian Men’s Superliga.
Playing in front of their home fans in Campinas, last year’s runners-up had a solid performance to top their opponents, who were promoted from the country’s second division, in straight sets (25-12, 25-20, 25-18) and start their campaign on the right foot.
The Brazilian Men’s and Women’s Superliga matches are available live for VBTV subscribers located in Brazil.
The encounter marked the return of Brazilian legendary setter and longtime national team captain Bruno Rezende to this country’s national league after seven years in Italy.
Displaying a good connection with Adriano, who was his teammate at the Paris 2024 Olympics, Bruno helped the outside hitter end the match with 13 points (11 kills, one block, one ace). Outside hitter Matheus Celestino, with ten points, and Argentinean Olympic medalist opposite Bruno Lima, with nine, also had strong productions for Vôlei Renata.
“It’s great to get the Superliga going,” Adriano said after the match. “Our team is very focused right now, we know where we want to get and we’ve been working hard every day as a team to get there. Starting at home was nice, it gave us a motivation boost that will help us for the season.”
