The team's first positive result across all competitions since December 17 helped Campinas continue in second place in the Superliga despite their recent difficult run of form. They have 33 points (11 wins, three losses), one more than third-placed Praia Clube - both teams trail defending champions Sada Cruzeiro, who ended the third leg with 38 (12 wins, two losses).
Brazilian national team outside hitter Adriano Xavier played a major role in Campinas' long-awaited victory, tallying 14 points (12 kills, one block, one ace) and earning the match's MVP award. Reappearing in the team's starting lineup after missing the last matches due to knee pain, Olympic champion Maurício Borges added ten points.
"It's been 40 days since we last played here and we know the energy in this building is just different," Adriano said. "The fans push us a lot, and when we don't have that, we kind of miss it. Being among the top teams in the Superliga is one of our goals. We had some bad results, which hurt our confidence a little bit, but we know there are still many matches ahead of us and we want to keep improving."
