A top-end clash between the second and the third in the current standings will open the penultimate 21st leg of the Italian men’s volleyball SuperLega Credem Banca on Saturday evening. Rana Verona still have a mathematical chance of winning the regular season, which goes through defeating table leaders Sir Susa Scai Perugia. Should the reigning club world and European champions bring home two or three points, they will secure the first place in the final regular season standings and, with that, a direct ticket to next season’s CEV Champions League, one leg before the end. Another five matches are set to be played on Sunday, February 22.

Rana Verona will entertain Sir Susa Scai Perugia at the Agsm AIM hall on Saturday, February 21, at 20:30 local time (19:30 UTC). The gap between the two teams in the table is currently four points wide. The team from Perugia is in first place on 52 points and an 18-2 win-loss record, while their hosts are second on 48 and 17-3. If Verona win, the distance will be narrowed to one or three points, still leaving the door to the first place slightly open for them. But if Sir win, the gap will widen to five or seven points, cementing them as regular season winners.

The all-time head-to-head record stands at 35-10 heavily in favor of the Block Devils. However, Verona are on a three-game winning streak against Sir. In January 2025, they beat them in five sets in an Italy Cup semifinal. In November, they won their first SuperLega encounter of the season on the road, also in five sets, and earlier this month, they swept the Coppa Italia semifinal in straight sets.

“I expect a battle, with Perugia coming here mindful of their two losses this year. We just need to bring our best volleyball back onto the court to face them, while also trying to adapt to any changes they make. I expect a focused match from us against an opponent even more eager to do well after having fallen short in our head-to-head matches this season.” Fabio Soli, head coach of Rana Verona
“It's an important match, in my opinion, especially for our growth, regardless of the standings. It's true that we're there, and it's now our goal to try to finish first, but regardless of the standings, it's another important test because it's another of those great matches to play in Verona, against what I consider, along with Trento, the strongest team. We'll try to enjoy this match. I always try to enjoy and have fun with the great, tough matches, regardless of the technical difficulties we'll encounter. The battle between serve and reception will prove decisive.” Massimo Colaci, libero of Sir Susa Scai Perugia

With the full lists of eight teams advancing to the quarterfinal playoffs and three teams moving on to the fifth-place playoffs, Sunday’s matches will be mostly about looking for better starting positions in the grids.

Defending champions Itas Trentino Trento will travel to Piacenza, looking to consolidate in third place, which they currently hold on 44 and 15-5, and even to set themselves up for an attack of the second. Meanwhile, their hosts Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza occupy fifth place on 40 and 12-8, also with room for climbing up. The match at the Banca Sport hall will serve off at 18:00 (17:00). The previous two encounters between the two teams earlier this season – in a SuperLega game in Trento and in a Coppa Italia semifinal in Bologna – produced five-set duels, with Trentino celebrating victory in both.

Valsa Group Modena, running fourth on 41 and 14-6, will play on the road at Yuasa Battery Grottazzolina, trailing bottom on 6 and 1-19 and already doomed to relegation. The match at the Savelli hall, starting at 18:00 (17:00) on Sunday, will be Grottazzolina’s last home game in the SuperLega for the time being and they will certainly be keen to please their fans with a good performance and a good result. When they visited Modena in November, they managed to bring home a set.

In Sunday’s opening match, Cucine Lube Civitanova will visit Cisterna Volley. The first whistle is at 17:00 (16:00). Lube are in sixth place on 35 and 11-9. Cisterna are in 10th on 14 and 5-15. They also managed to win a set upon their visit to Civitanova Marche in November.

The two teams at the bottom of the playoff zone – Vero Volley Monza and Allianz Milan – will meet at the Opiquad Arena in Monza in Sunday’s closing match at 19:00 (18:00). After the previous leg, Vero Volley secured the last available spot in the quarterfinals. They are now in eighth place on 22 and 7-13, while Allianz are just above them, in seventh on 29 and 10-10. November’s match between them in Milan went 3-1 Allianz’s way.

SuperLega rookies MA Acqua San Bernardo Cuneo will welcome Sonepar Padova Padua at 18:00 (17:00) for a match important for their starting positions in the fifth-place playoff grid. Cuneo are now in 11th place on 14 and 4-16, while Padova are just a point above them, in ninth place on 15 and 6-14. In October, they put up a five-set battle in Padua, with the home team winning the tie-breaker.
