Yuasa Battery Grottazzolina finally earned their first win of the season in the Italian men’s volleyball SuperLega Credem Banca. They closed the competition weekend on Sunday evening with a hard-fought five-set home victory over Cisterna Volley. The remaining five matches of the 14th leg did not produce any surprises. In the most anticipated game of the leg, a remake of last season’s final, defending champions Itas Trentino Trento defeated Cucine Lube Civitanova at home on Saturday.

In the weekend’s only five-setter, Yuasa Battery Grottazzolina put together a 3-2 (20-25, 26-24, 25-22, 23-25, 15-9) home win over Cisterna Volley in a clash at the very bottom of the current standings. This result narrowed the gap between the two teams down to three points. Grottazzolina are still stuck at the bottom, in 12th place, now on 4 points and a 1-13 win-loss record. Cisterna stand right above them, in 11th place on 7 and 3-11. Outside hitter Michele Fedrizzi contributed a match-high 23 points towards Grottazzolina’s victory and claimed the Most Valuable Player (MVP) honors. His tally featured two kill blocks and an ace.
In the most anticipated duel of the weekend, last season’s champions Itas Trentino Trento achieved a 3-1 (25-22, 25-20, 21-25, 25-22) victory at home over last season’s silver medalists Cucine Lube Civitanova. Trentino improved to 35 and 12-2 at the top of the table, while Lube dropped from fifth to sixth place on 25 and 8-6. Volleyball World’s number one men’s volleyball player of 2025 Alessandro Michieletto, outside hitter of Trentino, contributed a team-high 17 points, including two kill blocks and an ace. His Bulgarian counterpart, Volleyball World’s number two player of the year Aleksandar Nikolov, emerged as the best scorer of the match with 24 points for Lube, including three aces.
Sir Susa Scai Perugia kept their second place in the standings, behind Trentino only on set ratios, after a 3-1 (25-21, 23-25, 25-14, 25-19) home win over Allianz Milan. Tunisian opposite Wassim Ben Tara led the club world champions with a match-high 18 points, including two blocks and an ace. While Sir are in the runner-up position on 35 and 12-2, Allianz descended from sixth to seventh place on 23 and 8-6.
A point below the two leaders, Rana Verona continue in third place after winning at Vero Volley Monza in straight sets, 3-0 (25-20, 25-12, 27-25). Malian outside Noumory Keita led the way with 15 points, spiking 13 at a 72% success rate and firing two from the serving line. Verona stand on 34 and 12-2. Vero Volley remained just above the cut-off line for the playoffs, in eighth place on 12 and 4-10.
Fourth-placed Valsa Group Modena also bought home three points from their visit to Sonepar Padova Padua and improved to 31 and 10-4. Outside Luca Porro nailed five aces, put up a kill block and hit 13 points in attack towards Modena’s 3-1 (20-25, 25-20, 25-23, 25-17) comeback victory. He shared the top scorer honors with Padova counterpart Mattia Orioli (four kill blocks, two aces) on 19 points each. In the table, Padova occupy ninth place on 11 and 4-10.
Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza are the team that overtook both Lube and Allianz in the standings and climbed to fifth place on 26 and 8-6 after a 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-17) sweep of their home game against rookies MA Acqua San Bernardo Cuneo, who are in 10th place, now on 9 and 2-12. Gas Sales’ Turkish outside Efe Mandiraci was the best scorer of the match with 13 points, including two aces.
The SuperLega continues with the six 15th-leg matches on January 10 and 11.
