Just two days after the second quarterfinal leg in the Italian men’s SuperLega Credem Banca was over, the third leg is about to serve off on Tuesday evening with episode three of the intense clash between Valsa Group Modena and Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza, the only one of the four series that is certain to move on to a fourth match. The third game in each of the other three playoffs will be played on Wednesday with potential to bring the best-of-five series to a close.

Valsa Group Modena v Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza

The first two quarterfinal games between Valsa Group Modena and Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza lived up to the expectations that the two neighbors, placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the final regular season standings would offer the toughest fight. They traded wins in two nail-biting five-set battles, with Modena, led by Luca Porro, achieving a nail-biting 3-2 (23-25, 22-25, 25-20, 25-16, 17-15) reverse sweep at home, and Gas Sales, led by Luca’s older brother Paolo Porro, reacting with a 3-2 (18-25, 25-17, 28-30, 25-21, 18-16) victory at their own venue. This way the all-time head-to-head record between the two clubs was unbalanced and rebalanced again to a 13-13 tie. This season alone, they have already met five times. Valsa Group claimed three wins, while the team from Piacenza won two encounters, including December’s Italy Cup quarterfinal against Modena. The third game of this quarterfinal series will serve off at 20:30 local time (19:30 UTC) on Tuesday at the Panini hall in Modena.

“We understand that it will be a very exciting and difficult series. We are ready for this game three on our home ground. We will play in front of a crowd that will push very hard and play with us.” Luke Perry, libero of Valsa Group Modena
“We're looking forward to game three in Modena. It is certainly going to be a tough match. It's hard to imagine what to expect. We definitely need to stay mentally prepared, because I'm sure there will be more tie-breakers between now and the end of the series.” Paolo Porro, setter of Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza
Sir Susa Scai Perugia v Vero Volley Monza

Reigning club world champions, Italian Super Cup laureates and SuperLega regular season winners Sir Susa Scai Perugia are holding a 2-0 lead in their quarterfinal series against eighth-placed Vero Volley Monza and are hoping to close this playoff on Wednesday, when they host their opponents at the Barton Energy, starting at 20:30 (19:30). But the first two matches showed that this will not be an easy task. In game one, Sir came back from a set down to celebrate a 3-1 (21-25, 25-20, 25-16, 25-17) home win, spearheaded by Polish outside Kamil Semeniuk, who also inspired his teammates towards an even tougher 3-2 (22-25, 25-23, 21-25, 25-19, 15-11) road victory in game two. The team from Perugia also won each of the two encounters with Vero Volley during the regular season in four sets. In fact, the last time the club from Monza managed to win a match against the Block Devils was back in April 2024, in a five-set battle during the SuperLega championship series. Overall, the two clubs have met a total of 45 times, with Sir winning 37 of the encounters.

“They know this is their last chance and will give it everything they have, as they should. For our part, we definitely want to seal the deal, but always with calm and the knowledge that anything can happen.” Sebastian Sole, middle blocker of Sir Susa Scai Perugia
“Game two proved we can compete with Sir Susa Scai Perugia. We played an excellent match. The crowd was very supportive and we hope to see them back again in another home match against this team. It would mean we will have won tomorrow's match, where we'll try to give it our all to secure a positive result. In game one, we won one set, in game two, we won two, and this time we hope to bring home the full prize.” Jan Zimmermann, setter of Vero Volley Monza
Itas Trentino Trento v Cucine Lube Civitanova

Cucine Lube Civitanova have so far disregarded the seeding in the playoff bracket. Entering the quarterfinals as the sixth-placed team, they delivered two upsets of defending champions Itas Trentino Trento, who finished third in the regular season. Visiting their mighty opponent at the BTS Arena again on Wednesday at 20:30 (19:30), Lube are hoping to bring home another win and advance to the semifinals. With Bulgarian outside hitter Aleksandar Nikolov leading the scorers in both matches, they produced a 3-1 (25-21, 27-25, 24-26, 25-17) away win and a 3-0 (25-22, 25-14, 25-20) sweep at home. During the regular season, Lube and Trentino traded four-set home victories, and the all-time head-to-head record between the two clubs now stands at 60-51 Lube’s way.

“The series didn't end in game two. We still have this home opportunity to take advantage of to extend it and try to leave our mark. We know perfectly well that the task ahead will be extremely difficult, but I'm convinced that with the support of our fans, we can play a good game and cause problems for a solid and in-form team like Cucine Lube right now. We'll have to give it our all.” Marcelo Mendez, head coach of Itas Trentino Trento
“In Trento, we must take to the court with the same determination as in the first two matches. It will be equally crucial to be aware from now that we will also experience difficult moments in the match. Despite the significant absences, Itas are a very strong team, with players with international experience who will do everything they can to stop us. We will invest all our energy to close out the series early.” Mattia Boninfante, setter of Cucine Lube Civitanova
Rana Verona v Allianz Milan

Wednesday’s program will also offer the third game of the series between Rana Verona and Allianz Milan at the Agsm AIM hall, serving off at 20:30 (19:30). In the first match of the series, Italy Cup winners and SuperLega regular season runners-up Verona handed their seventh-placed visitors Allianz a 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-21) shutout, but in the second, they had to mount a dramatic 3-2 (25-27, 20-25, 25-16, 25-22, 17-15) comeback from two sets down to overcome the home team’s resistance. Verona swept the previous three matches against Allianz this season in straight sets – two in the SuperLega regular season and one in a Coppa Italia quarterfinal. The overall head-to-head record stands at 23-13 in favor of Verona.

“We'll have to play good volleyball. We're feeling good, and we hope our arena will bring us that extra something that will help us win. We'll go out on the court with conviction and determination to achieve this. I have to congratulate the boys because in a playoff game away from home and down 2-0, they did a good job of getting back into the match and bringing home a great result. This shows that the team is there.” Fabio Soli, head coach of Rana Verona
“We showed that Rana Verona must play at their best to beat us, because when we give our all, we can cause problems for any team. We need to be able to capitalize on key moments in the match and secure important points. Serving will be important. We've shown we know how to fight, and we'll have to do so with the same determination. The hall will certainly be packed, they won't be cheering for us, and that should give us extra motivation. We need determination and confidence, and we've shown we have both.” Edoardo Caneschi, middle blocker of Allianz Milan
