In front of a sellout crowd of over nine thousand fans in the stands for the Italy Cup final showdown, the 32-year-old star playmaker conducted Rana Verona to a merciless 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-20) shutout of Trentino, a day after they, just as mercilessly, knocked out reigning club world and European champions Sir Susa Scai Perugia in a straight-set semifinal. The best result Verona had achieved so far in the history of the competition was last year’s second place, when they lost the final to Cucine Lube Civitanova.
Verona’s Malian outside hitter Noumory Keita fired three aces towards a match-high 15 points in the final. Brazilian opposite Darlan Souza registered an impressive 71% success rate in attack to contribute 12 points, all in swings. Slovenian outside and captain Rok Mozic hammered the match winner with a pulverizing pipe shot to finish with nine points, including one kill block.
Trentino were led by French opposite Theo Faure with 13 points, including one ace. Spanish outside Jordi Ramon fired three aces and raised a kill block to reach the double digits with a total of 10 points.
