FINAL 42

Oleh Plotnytskyi is the third Sir Susa Vim Perugia star to extend his contract with the club in recent days. After Sir secured the signatures of Italian national team members and reigning world and club world champions Simone Giannelli and Roberto Russo, now the 26-year-old Ukrainian international, arguably one of the best servers in the world, also renewed his contract to stay in Perugia for at least another two seasons.

Oleh arrived in Perugia from his only previous foreign club Vero Volley Monza in 2019, when he was 22 years old. Defending Sir’s colours, the 1.90m-tall outside hitter has already collected two FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship titles, two Coppa Italia and four Supercoppa Italiana trophies. Furthermore, he was named Most Valuable Player of the last edition of the Club Worlds in December and of the 2024 Italian national cup in January. The Coppa Italia was Plotnytskyi and his teammates’ third trophy this season and they are in the running for a fourth one, the national title in Italy, currently standing second in the SuperLega Credem Banca regular season table.

Early into his career, Oleh showed great potential in beach volleyball and in addition to a couple of continental medals, he helped bring Ukraine a 2014 FIVB U19 Beach Volleyball World Championship silver. His indoor star rose internationally at the 2016 CEV U20 Volleyball European Championship, where he led underdogs Ukraine to a sensational silver, himself earning the MVP award with an out-of-this-world performance, especially from the serving line. The following year he joined the senior national team and has since turned into Ukraine’s true leader in international competition.

“I already feel like a Perugian. I really feel at home here,” Plotnytski told sirsafetyperugia.it. “With this contract renewal, I felt great trust in me from the president and the club. I can only thank them and be happy, because it is a sign that I am growing and that I am on the right path. In big teams like Perugia you can't stay for long if you don't demonstrate something important and I'm happy that my story with the club continues.

“I arrived really young and the first dreams I had were to win the first trophy or become MVP of a big tournament. They came true. I have grown a lot as a player, but I still have a lot to grow and a lot to improve. I believe that with every coach I have had here I have improved some aspect of my game. And then I became a dad here. Svyat's arrival made me get a little more serious at home, but only at home...  Joking aside, Anna and Svyat have a good life in Perugia and this is another important thing for me. Svyat is happy. He likes coming to the arena, playing with the mascot and watching our fans. I am proud to be able to play for these fans, because they are always close to us even in difficult moments.”
