During his first two and a half seasons with Sir, the 2.00m-tall playmaker claimed two FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship titles, garnished with Dream Team nominations on both occasions and a Most Valuable Player recognition in 2022, in addition to two Coppa Italia crowns and two Supercoppa Italiana trophies. The club from Perugia has already collected one of each of these trophies this season alone, and is well in contention for the national title, currently running second in the SuperLega Credem Banca regular season standings. Giannelli has already made 124 appearances with the club’s jersey.
With his only previous professional club, Itas Trentino Trento, Giannelli picked up another two Club World Championship golds, one CEV Cup trophy, two national titles, one national cup and one national super cup, as well as a a number of individual awards.
He has been a member of the Italian national team since 2015 and his magical setting has helped the squad triumph as world champions in 2022, claim the Rio 2016 Olympic silver, as well as a 2015 FIVB Volleyball World Cup silver, a 2017 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Champions Cup silver and a full set of medals at the CEV European Championships. As a national team player, the Italian playmaker has also earned numerous individual recognitions, most notably the MVP awards at the 2022 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship and the 2021 European Championship.

“I am very satisfied and very happy to have renewed with Perugia, a club that always has great ambitions. I hope that together we will be able to gain more great satisfaction and that we will be able to reach more new goals,” Simone Giannelli said. “It's certainly a nice thing to have responsibilities. I'm happy to take them and I'm happy to continue giving my contribution to this club. I'm happy with what we all faced together and how we faced it, both in victories and in defeats. Compared to three years ago, I know the city better, I know the environment better and I also know the fans better. And I can say that the thing that has never changed in recent years is the warmth that our fans have towards the team and towards our project. I'm happy to have them by our side. Perugia is part of my life now and it will be in the future.”
“There is a lot of satisfaction from the extension of the contract with Simone for another three years,” said Sir Susa Vim Perugia President Gino Sirci. “We are talking about a great player who has always had a high performance with us in recent seasons and who gives us many guarantees for the future. And then we are also talking about a very good boy. We have great respect for Simone both from a technical and from a human point of view.”
