“I am very happy to arrive at a club like Vero Volley, which seems very organized and ambitious to me,” 38-year-old Juantorena told verovolley.com. “Last year the team did great things and I want to help them do the same in the season that awaits us. I am convinced that Monza will be another beautiful stage in my career and I can't wait to get started.”
Osmany Juantorena’s club career is highlighted by as many as five FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship titles – four as a Trentino Volley Trento player and one as a Cucine Lube Civitanova player – also earning an impressive record-high number of Most Valuable Player (MVP) recognitions in the history of the competition, with four awards in his showcase. The 2.00m-tall outside hitter has also collected three continental club titles in the CEV Champions League, six national titles, six national cups and one national super cup in Italy, in addition to a number of domestic trophies in Türkiye and Qatar. Juantorena has picked up numerous individual honours so far and, in addition to those from the Club World Championships, the three Champions League MVP awards are among the ones that stand out. He has played for clubs from Cuba, Russia, Italy, Türkiye, Qatar and China.
Juantorena’s national team career started in his native Cuba, with whom he earned a 2005 FIVB Volleyball World League bronze and made it to several podiums at the continental level. He played for the Italian national team from 2015 to 2021 and during this period he celebrated a Rio 2016 Olympic silver, a 2015 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Cup bronze (garnished with a Dream team nomination) and a 2015 CEV European Championship bronze.
2022 world champion with Italy Leandro Mosca also joined the club from Monza. The 2.09m-tall middle blocker transferred to Vero Volley from Rana Verona, where he spent the previous two seasons of his club career. Before that, Mosca played two SuperLega seasons with Allianz Milan and that period was highlighted by the biggest success in his club career so far, the 2021 CEV Challenge Cup. In addition to his 2022 World Championship gold, the 23-year-old talent has also picked up silver medals at the 2023 European Championship and the 2019 FIVB Volleyball Men’s U21 World Championship.
“I am very happy and excited to arrive in Monza next season,” Mosca told the club’s website. “They reached three finals last year and showed a very high level of volleyball. I'm excited to repeat the good things done last season, and if possible go even further. I can't wait to start preparing, to get to all the events that await us in the best possible way: the super cup, the Italian league and the Champions League.”
