Reigning world champion with Italy Yuri Romano will play for his current club team, Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza, at least until 2026. The club announced a two-year extension of their contract with the 26-year-old volleyballer.

The 2.01m-tall opposite is currently into his second season in Piacenza. In his first season, he helped the club claim their first trophy in history, the 2023 Coppa Italia, and reach their first continental semifinal, in the 2023 CEV Cup. Gas Sales are currently fourth in the SuperLega Credem Banca regular season standings and, with two legs to play, they have already secured a spot in the upcoming quarterfinal playoffs. They have also already progressed to the quarterfinals of the CEV Champions League in their rookie participation in Europe’s most prestigious club competition.

After competing in the lower Italian divisions for several seasons, Romano made his SuperLega debut in 2021 as a player of Allianz Milan, right after he had triumphed as a European champion upon his debut with Italy’s senior national team. The following year, Romano had e key role in Italy’s triumph at the 2022 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship, and in his third season as an Italian international, he helped the team reach the Volleyball Nations League 2023 semifinals and the EuroVolley 2023 final, claiming the continental silver.

“We are particularly happy to have Yuri with us in the coming seasons too,” said Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza club president Elisabetta Curti. “He is a player we have been firmly focused on since even before he won the World Championship. We know his qualities and I am happy that he can be part of our project for the next seasons too.”
