Trentino v Gas Sales (source: legavolley.it)

There are two teams that remain undefeated in Italy’s SuperLega Credem Banca since the start of the season. After Saturday, there will be only one. Unbeaten Itas Trentino Trento and Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza are set to open the fourth leg of the regular season with a head-to-head clash starting at 20:30 local time (19:30 UTC) on November 11.

Gas Sales have not even lost a set yet, after shutting out Pallavolo Padova Padua, Allianz Milan and Farmitalia Catania in their first three matches, and stand on top of the current table on nine points. However, now Antoine Brizard and his teammates will have to face a much more solid opponent in defending champions Trentino. Marco Podrascanin and company started the season with five-set victories over Cisterna Volley and Gioiella Prisma Taranto, and a straight-set success against Rana Verona, but now they will have to deal with an even more impressive line-up of stars on the other side of the net as they welcome their visitors from Piacenza at the ilT quotidiano Arena on Saturday. Also on a 3-0 win-loss record, but with seven points, Trentino are third in the standings, below Mint Vero Volley Monza, who have nine points, but have already played four matches.

The two clubs have so far met 19 times and Trentino have won 13 of those encounters. In the 2023 calendar year alone, they have already faced each other seven times and Gas Sales have won on four occasions, including the Coppa Italia final in February. Trentino, however, celebrated in three of the five games of their SuperLega semifinal playoff series to advance to the final and go on to triumph as champions.

“An important and difficult match awaits us on Saturday evening against Piacenza. I'm happy that we will be able to play it at home because our fans will certainly be able to give us even more energy. However, I believe that we will have to focus on the quality of our game, which can still grow. In Verona we achieved a victory that fills us with satisfaction, since few teams have managed to obtain that type of result and performance on the Verona court in the past.” Jan Kozamernik, middle blocker of Itas Trentino Trento

In another big clash within the top half of the table this weekend, reigning club world champions Sir Susa Vim Perugia will host Valsa Group Modena on Sunday at 18:00 local time (17:00 UTC). The stellar squad around Italian playmaker Simone Giannelli, who won the Supercoppa Italiana last week, will try to bounce back from the five-set loss to Cucine Lube Civitanova over the weekend, their first of the new season that pushed them down to fourth in standings on 2-1 and seven points. After two five-set victories at the start of the season, iconic Brazilian setter Bruno Rezende and his teammates also suffered their first setback last weekend, at the hands of Mint Vero Volley Monza in straight sets at home, and will be looking to recover from that heavy blow and climb up from the sixth place, where they stand on 2-1 and four points.

“Sunday's match against Modena will be another very complicated game against a team that has a very high value and is full of champions. And then there's (Osmany) Juantorena, a friend, a guy I respect and a player I like a lot. When you play against him it's always difficult. We will try to be ready.” Massimo Colaci, libero of Sir Susa Vim Perugia
“We will play against Perugia with less pressure. We will be away against one of the strongest teams in the championship and we must take it as an opportunity to find our game again.” Giovanni Sanguinetti, middle blocker of Valsa Group Modena

The other four games of the fourth leg will also be played on Sunday. The competition day will start at 16:00 local time (15:00 UTC) with 10th-placed Pallavolo Padova Padua hosting seventh-placed Cisterna Volley. Mint Vero Volley Monza will welcome 11th-placed Gioiella Prisma Taranto at 17:00 (16:00). An hour later, bottom-of-the-table Allianz Milan will look for their first win of the season against fifth-placed Cucine Lube Civitanova. The leg will end with newcomers Farmitalia Catania, currently in ninth place, entertaining eighth-placed Rana Verona at 20:00 (19:00).
