Wilfredo Leon claimed yet another prestigious award following his fantastic season in the Polish PlusLiga, in which he spearheaded BOGDANKA LUK Lublin to a historic championship title. The Cuban-born Polish star outside hitter was voted Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the season in the poll conducted by the Przeglad Sportowy sports daily among the 16 PlusLiga head coaches, other coaches, federation and league officials and journalists.

Leon also headlined the seven athletes chosen on the PlusLiga Dream Team, along with setter Marcin Komenda (BOGDANKA LUK Lublin), opposite Kewin Sasak (BOGDANKA LUK Lublin), outside hitter Tomasz Fornal (Jastrzebski Wegiel Jastrzebie-Zdroj), middle blockers Jakub Kochanowski (PGE Projekt Warsaw) and Anton Brehme (Jastrzebski Wegiel Jastrzebie-Zdroj), and libero Luke Perry (Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie).

A total of 30 volleyball stakeholders voted in the poll and Leon collected as many as 23 of their MVP votes. Two votes each went to Warta’s outside Bartosz Kwolek and Jastrzebski Wegiel’s Tomasz Fornal, while Lublin’s playmaker Marcin Komenda, Warta’s Portuguese setter Miguel Tavares and Lublin’s outside Mikolaj Sawicki picked up one vote each.

The prestigious Przeglad Sportowy pool has been conducted annually since 1975. Legendary Mariusz Wlazly has won it a record-high six times, while another Polish legend, Pawel Papke, with three MVP awards, is the only other player to have earned the honor more than twice.
