The upcoming weekend in the men’s volleyball PlusLiga will offer six matches of the 22nd leg of regular season action, most of which hard to predict, as the same match-ups produced five-set duels in the fall and especially given how unpredictable the league has already been so far this season, proving that anybody can beat anybody at any time. The weekend will serve off on Friday, February 20, with an opening game between ZAKSA Kedzierzyn-Kozle and Indykpol AZS Olsztyn, and will continue with another three games on Saturday and two on Sunday.

ZAKSA Kedzierzyn-Kozle will entertain Indykpol AZS Olsztyn at the Azoty hall on Friday at 20:00 local time (19:00 UTC). The home team is on the edge of the playoff zone in the current standings, in eighth place on 29 points and a 9-11 win-loss record. Indykpol are fifth on 36 and 13-6, with a game in hand. When they met in Olsztyn during the first half of the regular season in November, the two teams put up a five-set battle. Indykpol won the tie-breaker and that was their first victory over ZAKSA since 2022.

Saturday’s program will open with another encounter between teams from within the playoff zone. Table leaders Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie, running on 45 and 15-5, will host Energa Trefl Gdansk, seventh in the standings on 30 and 11-8, with a game in hand, at 14:45 (13:45). These two also engaged in a five-set duel in November, with hosts Trefl upsetting last season’s silver medalists in the tie-breaker.

Last season’s champions BOGDANKA LUK Lublin, also reigning national cup and national super cup laureates, will welcome Slepsk Malow Suwalki to the Globus in the next game on Saturday’s program, set to start at 17:30 (16:30). BOGDANKA have been shining at the continental level, still undefeated in the CEV Champions League, but in the PlusLiga, they are on a three-game losing streak and down to fourth place on 37 and 12-7, with a game in hand. Slepsk Malow, on the other hand, already look relatively safe from relegation, and can even meddle in the race for the playoff spots. Currently, they are in 10th place on 24 and 7-13. November’s match between the two teams in Suwalki went 3-0 they way of the visitors from Lublin.

Table trailers Steam Hemarpol Politechnika Czestochowa will be desperate for precious points as they host JSW Jastrzebski Wegiel Jastrzebie-Zdroj in Saturday’s late match at 20:00 (19:00). Steam are the current residents of the relegation zone, the 14th place, on 13 and 3-16 – four points behind 13th-placed Barkom Kazhany Lviv, but also with a game in hand. Jastrzebski Wegiel, on the other hand, are trying to secure their spot in the quarterfinals. The 2024-2025 regular season winners are in sixth place on 33 and 12-8. When they visited Jastrzebie-Zdroj in early December, the squad from Czestochowa managed to push their mighty opponents to a fifth set before conceding.

PGE GiEK SKRA Belchatow and Asseco Resovia Rzeszow will get Sunday’s competition day underway at 14:45 (13:45). The game will be played at the Energia hall in Belchatow. SKRA will try to put an end to an unpleasant seven-match losing run, between the league and the cup combined, that has pushed them down below the playoff zone. They are in ninth place on 27 and 9-9, but with two games in hand. Resovia, on the other hand, are up in third place on 37 and 13-7. They swept their home match against SKRA in November in straight sets.

The weekend’s closing match is relevant to the scuffle for salvation. It will feature Barkom Kazhany Lviv and InPost ChKS Chelm, meeting in Elblag at 20:00 (19:00) on Sunday evening. The two teams are neighbors in the standings, just above the relegation zone. The Ukrainian side is in 13th place on 17 and 6-14, while their visitors from Chelm are in 12th on 20 and 6-14. Barkom Kazhany celebrated a five-set win, when they visited Chelm in late November.

The last match of the 22nd leg, between Projekt Warsaw and Cuprum Stilon Gorzow Wielkopolski, will be played on February 23.
