Another extended Polish PlusLiga “weekend” is about to get underway on Thursday afternoon and offer four days of 12th-leg action, highlighted by a clash between fourth-placed Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie and fifth-placed ZAKSA Kedzierzyn-Kozle. In fact, the PlusLiga “weekend” has already started with a postponed game of the eighth leg, which offered a five-set battle between PSG Stal Nysa and PGE GiEK SKRA Belchatow on Wednesday.

In a rollercoaster match, SKRA achieved a 3-2 (18-25, 25-18, 25-19, 23-25, 15-12) away victory over Stal with Iranian opposite Amin Esmaeilnezhad leading the way with 25 points, including two aces and a kill block, and claiming the Most Valuable Player nomination. His Stal counterpart Remigiusz Kapica produced a match-high 31 points, including four aces and a block. The two points earned pushed SKRA further up the current standings, to seventh place on 19 points and a 7-4 win-loss record.

Now on a two-game winning streak, PGE GiEK SKRA Belchatow will try to extend it as they visit Asseco Resovia Rzeszow, standing ninth on 17 and 5-6, on Sunday at 14:45 local time (13:45 UTC). If Resovia take the three points, however, they will surpass SKRA by a point in the table.

Meanwhile, PSG Stal Nysa, who are just above the relegation zone, in 13th place on 9 and 2-9, will have a tough trip to BOGDANKA LUK Lublin on Saturday at 17:30 (16:30). Standing in third place on 25 and 9-2, Lublin are the heavy favourites in this match.

Undoubtedly, the most anticipated fixture of the upcoming 12th leg is the one between Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie and ZAKSA Kedzierzyn-Kozle. The big clash in Zawiercie is on Saturday at 14:45 (13:45). The hosts are in fourth place on 25 and 8-3, while the distinguished guests are fifth on 23 and 7-4. Previously, the two clubs have met 25 times in official competitions and ZAKSA lead the head-to-head series by 18-7. However, in their two most recent encounters last season, Aluron took the full six points.

Defending champions Jastrzebski Wegiel Jastrzebie-Zdroj, standing on top of the table on 28 and 9-2, will welcome Nowak-Mosty MKS Bedzin on Saturday at 20:30 (19:30). The visitors arе in 12th place on 10 and 3-7.

Second-placed PGE Projekt Warsaw will close the weekend with an away game at Cuprum Stilon Gorzow Wielkopolski on Sunday at 17:30 (16:30). The squad from the capital is on 25 and 9-2, while Cuprum, on 17 and 7-4, were just pushed down to eighth place by SKRA’s win on Wednesday.

Steam Hemarpol Norwid Czestochowa, dubbed the Robin Hood of the PlusLiga this season for taking points from the “rich” and handing points to the “poor”, will now have a home game against Indykpol AZS Olsztyn, who have been struggling to get out of the relegation zone. Norwid are in sixth place on 21 and 8-3, while Indykpol are 14th on 7 and 2-8. The match is on Friday at 17:00 (16:00).

Later that day, at 20:30 (19:30), bottom-placed GKS Katowice will try to use their home-court advantage to achieve their second win of the season as they host Trefl Gdansk. Trefl stand 10th on 12 and 3-8, while GKS are in 16th place on 4 and 1-10.

The 12th leg will get underway on Thursday at 17:30 (16:30), with Ukraine’s Barkom Kazhany Lviv entertaining Slepsk Malow Suwalki in Tarnow. Slepsk are 11th in the table on 11 and 4-6, while Barkom are second from the bottom, in 15th place on 5 and 2-8.
