PGE GiEK SKRA Belchatow achieved a four-set away victory at BOGDANKA LUK Lublin on Sunday and handed the defending champions their first defeat of the new season in Poland’s men’s volleyball PlusLiga. In another big match over the weekend, ZAKSA Kedzierzyn-Kozle shut out JSW Jastrzebski Wegiel Jastrzebie-Zdroj to celebrate their first win, while Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie took over the top of the current standings.

On Sunday afternoon, PGE GiEK SKRA Belchatow produced a hard-fought 3-1 (25-20, 26-24, 19-25, 28-26) win over their hosts BOGDANKA LUK Lublin and put an end to their winning streak of five consecutive matches, which started with the last game of the 2024-2025 championships series, in which they won their first national title, and rounded off with the 2025 AL-KO Superpuchar Polski final earlier last week, in which they claimed their first national super cup crown. With this victory, SKRA improved to 9 points and a 3-1 win-loss record and climbed to fourth place in the table, while Lublin dropped to sixth on 8 and 3-1.

Romanian outside hitter Daniel Chitigoi led the squad from Belchatow with 18 points, including one ace and one kill block, while the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award went to middle blocker Bartlomiej Lemanski, who fired four aces and spiked at a 75% success rate to finish with 13 points. Opposite Arkadiusz Zakleta also contributed 13 points, while French outside Antoine Pothron put away 15, including three blocks and two aces. BOGDANKA’s star outside Wilfredo Leon was the best scorer of the match with 20 points to his name, all in swings at a 56% success rate.

On Saturday afternoon, the anticipated duel between ZAKSA Kedzierzyn-Kozle and JSW Jastrzebski Wegiel Jastrzebie-Zdroj was resolved in straight sets. The hosts from Kedzierzyn-Kozle registered their first win of the season, a 3-0 (25-16, 25-23, 27-25) shutout of their mighty visitors from Jastrzebie-Zdroj. With this, ZAKSA climbed to ninth place on 5 and 1-3, just below Jastrzebski Wegiel, who are placed eighth on 5 and 2-2.

The MVP honors went to ZAKSA’s American setter Quinn Isaacson, while Italian international opposite Kamil Rychlicki topped the scorers’ chart with a match-high 15 points, including two blocks and one ace. Belgian outside Igor Grobelny added another 13 points towards ZAKSA’s success. The two Jastrzebski Wegiel outsides – Nicolas Szerszen and Serbian Miran Kujundzic – scored 10 points each for their team.

Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie, participants in next month’s FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship in Brazil, emerged on top of the table on 12 and 4-1 after their 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-22) home win over PlusLiga rookies InPost ChKS Chelm on Saturday. Aluron, however, have already played five matches, one more than most other PlusLiga teams. Chelm are third from the bottom, in 12th place on 2 and 1-3. American outside Aaron Russell, who played only during the first two sets of the match, produced a team-high nine points towards Aluron’s victory, all in swings at an 82% success rate. His Portuguese teammate, setter Miguel Tavares, earned the MVP award. Chelm’s Iranian outside Amirhossein Esfandiar was the only player to reach the double digits in the match, topping the charts with 11 points.

In the weekend’s closing match on Sunday evening, Steam Hemarpol Politechnika Czestochowa and Slepsk Malow Suwalki put up a five-set battle, which went 3-2 (25-18, 23-25, 25-21, 20-25, 15-12) the way of the home team from Czestochowa, for whom it was the first win of the season. The MVP recognition in this game also went to a setter, Steam’s legendary Argentinean playmaker Luciano De Cecco. Under his direction, the team registered a 57% success rate in attack and all five of his starter teammates reached the double digits in scoring, spearheaded by Czech opposite Patrik Indra with 24 points. His counterpart Bartosz Filipiak led Slepsk Malow with 21 points. Steam rose to 11th place on 3 and 1-3, while Slepsk Malow remained winless in 13th place on 1 and 0-4.

PlusLiga action will continue with four midweek matches – two on Tuesday, November 11, and two on Wednesday, November 12.
