Six teams chasing season’s first wins in midweek PlusLiga action

Three midweek matches on Tuesday and Wednesday will wrap up the first and the second legs of the season in the men’s volleyball PlusLiga in Poland. Coincidentally, all six of the participating teams will be fighting for their first wins of the new season. Exactly three of them will actually achieve them.

The only foreign club in the PlusLiga, Ukraine’s Barkom Kazhany Lviv, will host Steam Hemarpol Politechnika Czestochowa on Tuesday, October 28, at 17:30 local time (16:30 UTC) in Elblag. This will be the last fixture on the program of the second leg of the regular season. It will be the first home game of the season for Brakom. In the first leg, they took away a point from their visit to Energa Trefl Gdansk after a five-set battle and now occupy 11^th place in the current standings on 1 point and a 0-1 win-loss record. Meanwhile, the team from Czestochowa lost their home opener to defending champions BOGDANKA LUK Lublin in straight sets and trail bottom of the table, in 14^th place on 0 and 0-1.

The PlusLiga midweek action will be highlighted by a high-profile clash between ZAKSA Kedzierzyn-Kozle and Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie in a first-leg fixture scheduled on Wednesday, October 29, at 17:30 (16:30). Mighty ZAKSA, who finished fifth last season, will welcome silver medalists Aluron to the Azoty hall with both sides aiming at their first victory of the season. In their second-leg games, the squad from Kedzierzyn-Kozle pushed the reigning champions to five sets in Lublin and took 10^th place on 1 and 0-1, while the team from Zawiercie suffered a straight-set blow at home at the hand os bronze medalists PGE Projekt Warsaw and currently stand second from the bottom, in 13^th place on 0 and 0-1.

Also on Wednesday, but at 20:30 (19:30), Cuprum Stilon Gorzow Wielkopolski will entertain PGE GiEK SKRA Belchatow at the Arena Gorzow for a first-leg duel between neighbors in the table. After losing their second-leg matches, the two teams stand eighth and ninth, respectively, on 1 and 0-1 each. Over the weekend, Cuprum Stilon lost their five-setter at rookies InPost ChKS Chelm, while SKRA lost at home to Indykpol AZS Olsztyn, also in five sets.
