Asseco Resovia Rzeszow put together a 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 26-24) shutout of previous leaders PGE Projekt Warsaw at the Arena Ursynow in the Polish capital and improved to 11 points and a 4-0 win-loss record, surpassing their opponents into the first place of the table and leaving them in second on 9 and 3-1. Outside hitter Artur Szalpuk led the winners with 15 points. He spiked 14 at a 56% success rate and put away a kill block, earning the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award of the match. Resovia’s Canadian middle blocker Danny Demyanenko contributed another 11 points, registering a 77% success rate in attack and also chipping in with a blocking point. Projekt’s outside Bartosz Bednorz was the best scorer of the match with 16 points, including two aces and two kill blocks. His French cross-court teammate Kevin Tillie reached the double digits as well, with 10 points for the home team, also including two aces and two kill blocks.

In another fourth-leg game earlier on Thursday evening, Indykpol AZS Olsztyn achieved a 3-1 (21-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-21) home win over Energa Trefl Gdansk to the delight of the over four thousand fans on the stands at the Urania and climbed to fourth place on 9 and 3-1. German outside Moritz Karlitzek impressed with seven aces for the winners, to which he added 15 spike kills to pile up a 22-point tally and top the chart of the match, claiming the MVP honors. Czech opposite and captain Jan Hadrava added another 16 points for Indykpol, while opposite Aliaksei Nasevich was Trefl’s most prolific scorer with 17 points. The team from Gdansk now stands on 6 and 2-2 in seventh place.

Midweek action started on Tuesday, when an advanced match of the 12th leg between Cuprum Stilon Gorzow Wielkopolski and Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie was played because of the visitors’ appearance at December’s FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship in Brazil. Aluron mastered a 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-19) shutout of the home team and rose to third place on 9 and 3-1. Cuprum Stilon dropped to 13th on 1 and 0-4. Middle blocker and captain Mateusz Bieniek, who raised four kill blocks, and opposite Bartlomiej Boladz, who fired two aces, shared the top scorer honors of the match with 14 points apiece for the winners. The MVP award went to Bieniek. 20-year-old French outside Mathis Henno (three aces, one kill block) and Brazilian opposite Chizoba Neves delivered 12 points each for Cuprum Stilon.
