After Slepsk Malow Suwalki’s thrilling home win over ZAKSA Kedzierzyn-Kozle on Wednesday, the 21st leg of the men’s volleyball PlusLiga in Poland offered another five matches from Friday to Sunday, without any surprising results. In the highest-profile match-up, last season’s bronze medalists PGE Projekt Warsaw shut out trending Indykpol AZS Olsztyn to close the weekend on Sunday.

In front of over four thousand fans in the stands, PGE Projekt Warsaw mastered a 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 26-24) sweep of their road game at Indykpol AZS Olsztyn to improve to 43 points and a 15-5 win-loss record in second place in the current standings. Indykpol dropped to fifth on 36 and 13-6, with a game in hand. Outside hitter Bartosz Bednorz led Projekt with a team-high 15 points. German opposite Linus Weber added another 14, including three aces and two kill blocks, while setter Jan Firlej picked up the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award. Indykpol’s outside Karol Borkowski was the best scorer of the match with 16 points.

Indykpol AZS Olsztyn vs. PGE Projekt Warszawa - Match Highlights

Indykpol were surpassed in the table by Asseco Resovia Rzeszow, who claimed a 3-1 (25-16, 25-21, 18-25, 25-21) home victory over InPost ChKS Chelm on Saturday and rose to third place on 37 and 13-7. The PlusLiga rookies are third from the bottom, in 12th place on 20 and 6-14. It was the winners’ playmaker who earned the MVP nomination in this one too. Marcin Janusz also scored three kill blocks and two aces towards the victory. Meanwhile, outside Artur Szalpuk (three aces and two kill blocks) shared the top scorer honors with Chelm’s opposite Remigiusz Kapica (six aces, one kill block) as they finished with 17 points each.

Asseco Resovia Rzeszow vs. InPost ChKS Chełm - Match Highlights

Last season’s runners-up and current leaders Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie consolidated in first place after a 3-0 (25-17, 25-13, 25-22) shutout of their Ukrainian hosts Barkom Kazhany Lviv on Saturday. The FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship bronze medalists improved to 45 and 15-5 on top of the standings, while Barkom Kazhany are second from the bottom, in 13th place on 17 and 6-14. Opposite Bartlomiej Boladz contributed a match-high 13 points. Middle blockers Mateusz Bieniek and Adrian Markiewicz added another 12 and 11 points, respectively. The captain had three kill blocks and two aces, while Markiewicz had two stuffs and spiked at an 82% success rate to claim the MVP honors.

Barkom Każany Lwów vs. Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie - Match Highlights

Steam Hemarpol Politechnika Czestochowa managed to narrow the distance to Barkom Kazhany to four points after bringing home a point from their visit to Cuprum Stilon Gorzow Wielkopolski on Friday. The home team squeezed out a hard-fought 3-2 (25-14, 17-25, 25-23, 22-25, 16-14) victory and climbed a spot to 11th place on 20 and 6-14, with a better set ratio than Chelm. Steam are stuck in 14th place on 13 and 3-16, with a game in hand. 20-year-old French outside Mathis Henno and his cross-court teammate Kamil Kwasowski led the winners with 21 points, including two aces, each, with the latter receiving the MVP award. Czech opposite Patrik Indra topped the chart with a match-high 24 points for Steam.

Cuprum Stilon Gorzow vs. Steam Hemarpol Politechnika Częstochowa - Match Highlights

Also on Friday, JSW Jastrzebski Wegiel Jastrzebie-Zdroj came back from a set down against PGE GiEK SKRA Belchatow to celebrate a 3-1 (18-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-19) home victory with a match-high 19 points from outside hitter and match MVP Michal Gierzot. The 2024-2025 regular season winners ascended to sixth place on 33 and 12-8, overtaking Energa Trefl Gdansk, who stand seventh on 30 and 11-8, with a game in hand. SKRA remained below the cut-off line for the playoffs, in ninth place on 27 and 9-6, but with two games in hand.

KS Jastrzebski Wegiel vs. PGE GiEK Skra Belchatow - Match Highlights

The last match of the 21st leg, between Energa Trefl Gdansk and BOGDANKA LUK Lublin, is set to be played on March 17. Meanwhile, PlusLiga action continues with the seven matches of the 22nd leg to be played from Friday, February 20, to Monday, February 23.
