Jastrzebski Wegiel Jastrzebie-Zdroj v Steam Hemarpol Norwid Czestochowa

The defending champions of the last two seasons and current regular season winners Jastrzebski Wegiel Jastrzebie-Zdroj are aiming at the fourth national title as they take off on their playoff journey at home on Friday, March 28, at 17:30 local time (16:30 UTC) with their first match against playoff rookies Steam Hemarpol Norwid Czestochowa. Jastrzebski Wegiel topped the regular season table on 75 points and a 24-6 win-loss record, while Norwid made it above the cut-off for the first time in the club’s history, in eighth place on 46 and 16-14. The two clubs have had four PlusLiga matches with one another so far. Last season Jastrzebski Wegiel shutout the PlusLiga newcomers twice, but this season, the squad from Czestochowa surprised the champions with a 3-2 win at home in October, before losing January’s away match in four sets.

“I think we should be happy that we won the regular season, but now the most important part of the season begins and we are focusing on preparations for Friday's match. We know that we and Zawiercie are favorites today, also in the TAURON Poland Cup and in the Champions League, but as I said, we are focusing on the most important part of the season.” Lukasz Kaczmarek, opposite of Jastrzebski Wegiel Jastrzebie-Zdroj
PGE Projekt Warsaw v PGE GiEK SKRA Belchatow

PGE Projekt Warsaw managed to score the highest number of wins during the regular season, but finished runners-up on 72 and 26-4. With two silver and two bronze medals on their PlusLiga record, the club from the Polish capital is aiming at its first ever national title, keen on continuing to bring in the victories, which is what counts in the playoffs. On Friday, at 20:30 (19:30), they will host PGE GiEK SKRA Belchatow for the first game of their quarterfinal playoff. SKRA have triumphed as national champions nine times, but not since 2018. They took seventh place in the regular season on 51 and 17-13. Projekt won both of their games with SKRA this season – 3-2 at home in November and 3-1 away some 12 days ago – but the historic head-to-head record weighs heavily in favor of SKRA, who have won 50 of the 64 PlusLiga encounters between the two clubs.

“We are eagerly awaiting the most important part of the season. I am sure that we have exciting matches with PGE Projekt Warsaw ahead of us. We encourage all fans to be present at the hall. The support from the stands is invaluable, and this season the Bełchatow fans have already carried our team to very important victories. It certainly won't be an easy task, but we believe that our team is capable of causing a surprise and defeating the favored PGE Projekt. The team worked hard to achieve the best possible form and I am sure that now everyone will leave all their hearts and ennergy on the court, fighting for victory until the last ball.” Wieslaw Derylo, president of PGE GiEK SKRA Belchatow
Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie v Asseco Resovia Rzeszow

Reigning national cup and super cup holders Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie finished the regular season in third place on 72 and 24-6. They are now targeting their first ever PlusLiga crown, after taking the bronze in 2022 and the silver last season. However, they have a tough first challenge in the playoffs. Their opponents Asseco Resovia Rzeszow, placed sixth on 59 and 19-11, arrive at Arena Sosnowiec for Saturday’s first match at 14:45 (13:45) on an impressive winning streak of 17 consecutive matches between the PlusLiga and Europe’s CEV Cup. Historically, Resovia have claimed the national title three times, but not for some 38 years. The two clubs have met 26 times (23 in the PlusLiga), with Aluron taking a slight 14-12 advantage in the head-to-head record with the two wins this season, 3-2 away and 3-1 at home.

“It was a very difficult half year, with many matches, but with great results. Now we have the creme de la creme ahead of us. We are mentally and physically ready for it. But we have to remember that this year the top eight is extremely strong. We have difficult playoffs ahead of us, very even. I think that each of us won and each of us lost to someone in this eight and all this means that we don't really know where we will end up. Now we are only thinking about the quarterfinals. And to win, we have to be ready for any opponent.” Michal Winiarski, head coach of Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie
“In the quarterfinals, we will face an incredibly strong team. After all, this is a team that has already advanced to the Final Four of the Champions League. However, I am convinced that we also have advantages on our side, which will allow us to fight evenly with such a strong rival. Now we are focusing on preparing as best as we can for Saturday's match. Only what is here and now counts.” Tuomas Sammelvuo, head coach of Asseco Resovia Rzeszow
BOGDANKA LUK Lublin v ZAKSA Kedzierzyn-Kozle

A fierce battle for advancement to the semifinals is expected as BOGDANKA LUK Lublin and ZAKSA Kedzierzyn-Kozle clash in a quarterfinal playoff between the fourth and fifth in the table. Wilfredo Leon and his Lublin teammates finished the regular season on 63 and 21-9, a point above their next rivals, Bartosz Kurek and company, who ended on 62 and 21-9. That one point gives BOGDANKA the advantage to host the first match on Saturday at 17:30 (16:30) in front of sold-out stands. The club from Lublin has never medaled in the PlusLiga, but already has a European trophy in its showcase as it won the CEV Challenge Cup a few days ago. Their opponents from Kedzierzyn-Kozle are way more decorated with as many as 10 national championship titles in their history. The head-to-head between BOGDANKA and ZAKSA stands balanced at 4-4 in wins. This season alone, Lublin shut out their visitors from Kedzierzyn-Kozle in October, but in February’s away game, the two sides put up a five-set battle before hosts ZAKSA could emerge with the victory.
