BOGDANKA LUK Lublin left no doubts over their superiority in Saturday’s fourth leg of the PlusLiga best-of-five championship playoff against Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie, closed the series in an emphatic manner and triumphed as first-time national champions of Poland. This gold was Lublin’s first-ever PlusLiga medal. It has been a remarkable season for Wilfredo Leon and his teammates, who also won their first continental trophy, the CEV Challenge Cup, in March.

The hosts delighted a home crowd of over four thousand fans at the sold-out HSW Globus with a convincing 3-0 (25-22, 25-15, 25-18) shutout of their visitors from Zawercie to wrap up the final series at 3-1 in wins and celebrate the historic success.

The Most Valuable Player (MVP) award of the match went to BOGDANKA’s setter Marcin Komenda. The team’s overall success rate in attack was an impressive 57%. Within the three sets of the game, three of the team’s players reached the double digits in scoring. Swinging at a 69% success rate, opposite Kwein Sasak led the way with a match-high 14 points, including three aces. Outside hitters Wilfredo Leon (two aces) and Mikolaj Sawicki (three kill blocks, one ace) contributed 13 points each.

13 points was the tally of German opposite Gyorgy Grozer, Aluron’s only player to dip into the double digits. The team from Zawercie had to settle for silver again, matching their result from last season. They also have one bronze from 2022.

Earlier this week, PGE Projekt Warsaw secured the bronze medals, leaving last season’s champions Jastrzebski Wegiel Jastrzebie-Zdroj off the podium.
