Saturday could be the day the Polish PlusLiga season ends and the new champions BOGDANKA LUK Lublin are crowned, but it could also be the day Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie level the final playoff and push it to a do-or-die decider on Tuesday. Lublin braces itself for game four of the best-of-five series, which could stamp their favorites’ historic success as they have a 2-1 lead in wins.

BOGDANKA LUK Lublin will welcome Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie to the sold-out HSW Globus on Saturday, May 10, at 17:30 local time (15:30 UTC). Since BOGDANKA won the first two games of the series, they have been a victory away from a historic national title. With Aluron striking back at home, the squad from Lublin failed to seal the deal in game three, and will now have another chance to do so, this time in front of their own fans. Meanwhile, inspired by their first success in the final playoff, the team from Zawiercie will certainly be keen to achieve another one and extend the series to a crucial finale in front of their fans at Arena Sosnowiec on Tuesday evening, in search of a historic first of their own as well.

While Aluron are targeting their first ever PlusLiga crown, after taking the bronze in 2022 and the silver last season, BOGDANKA had never medaled in the PlusLiga before, so being in this final is already a historic achievement for them.

Lublin hammered out a 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-21) away victory over Aluron in the first match and doubled their lead with another 3-0 (25-14, 25-21, 25-14) sweep of the second at home. Aluron took the third match with a 3-1 (25-20, 25-20, 20-25, 29-27) home victory on Wednesday to stay alive in the race for the PlusLiga crown. One of the key factors in their success was legendary German opposite Gyorgy Grozer, who joined the team in an emergency medical transfer to replace injured Karol Butryn through the end of the PlusLiga season.

“The team's motivation is at the highest level, because these are the PlusLiga finals! We have taken an important step to extend the competition for gold, but it won't be easy, because now we will play in Lublin. I hope that we will start this match with the same energy as in Sosnowiec and that we will be able to put pressure on our rivals with our good play. We have a really strong team and each of the guys is giving it their all.” Gyorgy Grozer, opposite of Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie

Both games between Aluron and BOGDANKA during the regular season were decided in tie-breaker fifth sets with the visitors emerging victorious on both occasions. Lublin’s wins in the first two matches of the final series were only the second and the third victories they have ever achieved against this opponent in the overall 11 head-to-head encounters they have had so far.
