BOGDANKA LUK Lublin and Asseco Resovia Rzeszow will lock horns in Sunday’s men’s volleyball TAURON Puchar Polski final showdown at Krakow’s TAURON Arena, set to serve off at 14:45 local time (13:45 UTC). In Saturday’s semifinals, the two teams outplayed Indykpol AZS Olsztyn and PGE Projekt Warsaw, respectively, to stay on track to snatching Poland’s national cup crown. While it will be Resovia’s first Puchar Polski final in 10 years, for the reigning national champions and national super cup laureates from Lublin, it will be the first national cup final ever.

Saturday’s first semifinal played in front of about 8,400 spectators offered a five-set saga that lasted two hours and 40 minutes. The fourth set alone took as many as 62 rallies to resolve, and in it a four-point lead was first wasted and four match points were later denied well before the game was pushed to a tie-breaker. In the end, BOGDANKA LUK Lublin celebrated a 3-2 (25-19, 16-25, 25-18, 30-32, 15-12) victory over Indykpol AZS Olsztyn and advanced to Sunday’s final.
Opposite Kewin Sasak was the winners’ leading scorer, with five kill blocks and an ace towards a total tally of 24 points, and claimed the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award. Star outside hitter Wilfredo Leon contributed another 17 points, including two blocks.
Indykpol’s Czech opposite Jan Hadrava emerged as the top scorer of the match. His 28-point tally included 27 spike kills at a 56% success rate and a block. German outside Moritz Karlitzek added 22 points, all in swings at a 52% success rate, for the squad from Olsztyn.
Because of the first match’s duration, the second semifinal started with a substantial delay. 99 minutes later, in front of an official count of 9,345 fans in the stands, Asseco Resovia Rzeszow celebrated a 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-22) shutout of PGE Projekt Warsaw and a spot in the final showdown.
Resovia’s setter Marcin Janusz received the MVP honors. In the three sets of the match, three of his strikers reached the double digits in scoring. Opposite Karol Butryn hammered out a match-high 19 points, putting away one ace and one kill block and swinging at a 61% success rate. Slovenian outside hitter Klemen Cebulj fired three aces and raised three kill blocks to finish with 14 points, while his cross-court teammate Artur Szalpuk chipped in with another 12 points.
Outside hitter Bartosz Bednorz was Projekt’s most prolific scorer with 14 points, including two kill blocks and an ace, while German opposite Linus Weber delivered another 13 points, including three stuffs.
