Wilfredo Leon and Agnieszka Korenluk were selected as the best players of the 2024-2025 season in Poland’s PlusLiga and TAURON Liga, respectively, while Mariusz Wlazly and Agnieszka Bednarek were honored as the best players of the quarter-century. These were just some of the awards announced at this week’s 25th Anniversary Gala of Polish Volleyball Leagues.

At a special evening in Warsaw, the best athletes, sponsors, clubs and local governments that contributed to the development of league volleyball in Poland were awarded, and the 25th anniversary of the Polish Volleyball League, established on June 30, 2000, was commemorated.
“I am glad that I could receive the award among such a great group of athletes,” commented Poland’s legendary player Mariusz Wlazly, who took the quarter-century award in men’s volleyball. “It is an honor not only for me, but also for the entire group of people who have helped me throughout all these years. I started playing when the professional league was only three years old, everything was different then. It developed a lot and everything went in the right direction.”

The awards for the 2024-2025 season in the Polish volleyball leagues were also announced at the Gala. Agnieszka Korneluk, the middle blocker of first-time TAURON Liga champions DevelopRes Rzeszow, was recognized as the best player of the season.
“I am very happy! It is a distinction for a good season in my performance, but above all for the whole DevelopRes,” Korneluk said. “A nice gala, a pleasant event and a successful celebration of volleyball!”
Cuban-born Wilfredo Leon, the outside hitter, who made the greatest contribution towards BOGDANKA LUK Lublin’s historic first title, picked up the prize for the season’s best player in the PlusLiga.
“I have never seen so many fans on the stands before. I can't go anywhere without someone asking for an autograph or a photo. Playing in the PlusLiga is unique,” said Leon.

“This is a great time for our entire community. We are celebrating 25 years of our professional history,” said Artur Popko, president of the Polish Volleyball League. “Today there are hundreds of people with us, but the achievements of our clubs over the last quarter of a century were the work of thousands of people all over Poland, who built the position of the professional league together.”
