The week will open on Monday, February 23, at 20:00 local time (19:00 UTC) with the last game of the 22nd leg, in which PGE Projekt Warsaw will play host to Cuprum Stilon Gorzow Wielkopolski at the Torwar. Projekt are second in the table on 43 points and a 15-5 win-loss record, with a game in hand, or four points below leaders Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie. Cuprum Stilon are third from the bottom, in 12th place on 20 and 6-14, still well under threat of relegation as they are only four points above the salvation line. November’s game between the two teams in Gorzow Wielkopolski was taken by Projekt in straight sets.
The team from the capital will play their match of the 23rd leg just two days later. On Wednesday, at the same time and at the same venue, PGE Projekt Warsaw will entertain the current residents of the relegation zone, Steam Hemarpol Politechnika Czestochowa. Steam trail bottom in 14th place on 16 and 4-16 and eagerly need wins and points in their effort to survive in the league. The season’s first edition of this match-up in December was also resolved in straight sets the way of the visitors from Warsaw.
Tuesday’s opening match of the 23rd leg will offer a big clash between trending Indykpol AZS Olsztyn and defending champions BOGDANKA LUK Lublin. The two teams are neighbors in the table on 39 points each. Third-placed Indykpol edge ahead with a 14-6 win-loss record, against fourth-placed BOGDANKA’s 13-7. So, whoever wins this duel, serving off at 17:30 (16:30) on Tuesday at the Urania hall, will gain control of the third place for the time being. The team from Lublin won both encounters with their opponents from Olsztyn this season, in a PlusLiga straight-setter at home and in a nail-biting five-set semifinal for the Poland Cup.
Table leaders Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie will also play their 23rd-leg game on Tuesday. They will visit Slepsk Malow Suwalki at 20:00 (19:00). The bronze medalists of the last PlusLiga edition and of the most recent FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship lead the standings on 47 and 16-5, while their hosts are running 10th on 25 and 7-14, five points below the cut-off line for the playoffs. December’s game between them in Zawercie went 3-0 Aluron’s way.
One more game of the 23rd leg’s program will be played on Wednesday. Energa Trefl Gdansk will entertain InPost ChKS Chelm at the Ergo Arena at 17:30 (16:30). Trefl are racing to secure a spot in the quarterfinals. They are currently in the playoff zone of the table, in seventh place on 31 and 11-9. Meanwhile, the PlusLiga rookies are racing to secure a spot in the league for next season. They are running second from the bottom, just above the red line for relegation, in 13th place on 20 and 6-15. The previous meeting between the two teams in Chelm was won by the visitors from Gdansk in straight sets.
The remaining three matches of the 23rd leg are set to be played during the second half of March.
