Midweek action is expected to peak on Wednesday with the high-profile match between PGE Projekt Warsaw and JSW Jastrzebski Wegiel Jastrzebie-Zdroj in the spotlight. This remake of last season’s bronze medal playoff is set to serve off at 20:00 local time (19:00 UTC) on January 14 at the Torwar in the Polish capital. There is quite a distance between the two teams in the current standings now. Bronze medalists Projekt are running in second place on 31 points and an 11-3 win-loss record, while the 2024-2025 regular season winners stand just above the red line for the playoffs, in eighth place on 24 and 9-5. The Warsaw club is on a five-game winning streak in the head-to-head series against Jastrzebski Wegiel, including the three matches of the best-of-five third-place series in the spring and a sweep of their first game this season, November’s fixture in Jastrzebie-Zdroj. The all-time head-to-head record in the PlusLiga, however, stands at 32-24 Jastrzebski Wegiel’s way.
The PlusLiga week will open on Tuesday with another much anticipated encounter. ZAKSA Kedzierzyn-Kozle will host PGE GiEK SKRA Belchatow at the Azoty hall with the game starting at 17:30 (16:30). Mighty ZAKSA are now just below the playoff zone, occupying ninth place on 17 and 5-9. SKRA stand fifth on 27 and 9-4. In November, the two teams put up a five-set duel, which went the way of the hosts from Belchatow.
In Tuesday’s second fixture, the newly crowned national cup laureates BOGDANKA LUK Lublin, who are also the defending PlusLiga champions and the reigning national super cup holders, will welcome PlusLiga rookies InPost ChKS Chelm to the Globus at 20:00 (19:00). Lublin are also current table leaders on 32 and 11-3, while Chelm are trailing at the opposite end of the chart, in 14th place on 10 and 3-11. The champions swept November’s first encounter with Chelm in straight sets on the road.
Asseco Resovia Rzeszow, the other Puchar Polski finalist on Sunday, will try to bounce back from their loss to Lublin with a PlusLiga road win on Thursday. Cuprum Stilon Gorzow Wielkopolski will entertain them at Arena Gorzow at 20:00 (19:00). Resovia stand seventh in the table on 26 and 9-5, while Cuprum Stilon are third from the bottom, in 12th place on 11 and 3-11. The previous match between the two in November was resolved in straight sets in favor of the hosts from Rzeszow.
The last fixture of the 16th leg, between Steam Hemarpol Politechnika Czestochowa and Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie, is scheduled on February 4.
