Guillermo Falasca is the new head coach of last PlusLiga season’s sensation Steam Hemarpol Norwid Czestochowa. The former Spanish national team star player will coach at a Polish club for the first time in his career, moving from the Italian SuperLega, where he was at the helm of Cisterna Volley over the past two seasons.

Last season, 47-year-old Falasca guided Cisterna to a historic success, their first ever advancement to the SuperLega playoffs, and now he is moving to a team that achieved the same feat last season in Poland, making it among the top eight in the PlusLiga for the first time in the club’s history. The former striker is taking over from Brazilian coach Cezar Douglas Silva. In addition to several staff members, the club has been left by a few players - Damian Kogut, Mateusz Borkowski, Bartosz Szmidt and American setter Quinn Isaacson.

“I am happy to join Norwid. Czestochowa is a place with great traditions in Polish volleyball, with a clear and ambitious project,” Falasca told ksnorwidczestochowa.pl. “I was attracted by the opportunity to be part of a developing structure, based on solid foundations and a true passion for sport. I felt that this was the right place to pass on my experience and continue to develop as a coach. There is a great atmosphere here - healthy and hard-working - and that’s key to building something valuable. We want to be competitive in every match, build a team with character and identity, and make solid steps in the development of the group. I am not only focused on results, but on the process. The goal is to improve every day, work hard and make the fans proud of our style of play.”

As a player, Guillermo Falasca competed for clubs from Spain, France, Belgium, Italy, South Korea and Turkiye. Symbolically, the greatest success of his club career, Europe’s continental Top Teams Cup trophy with his Belgian team Knack Roeselare in 2002, was achieved in Czestochowa. Undoubtedly, the brightest highlight in Falasca’s athletic journey was the stunning exploit of the Spanish national team, which triumphed as European champions in 2007. He started coaching in 2015 at the women’s team of Spain’s Feel Volley Alcobendas, before switching to coaching men’s volleyball at France’s Narbonne Volley for five seasons. In 2021-2022, he steered Narbonne to the continental CEV Challenge Cup trophy.
