After looking at the men’s team uniforms we shift over to the women’s teams today to see which ones brought out new kit designs for the Olympic Games. We begin with those who kept their looks from the 2021 FIVB Volleyball Nations League.

The defending women’s world champions from 2018 and the silver medallists of the Olympic Games in 2016 are expected to contend for a medal. Peak is the outfitter for the team. The team’s kit's side panels are essentially racing strips in red, white or blue depending on the primary colour. Red uses white and blue, while blue uses red and white.

Turkey women use white, red and black looks, with small horizontal stripes and side panels with increasing gradations.

The South Korea kit features a combination of blue, white and red - the national colours. The blue version has two different tones of blue for the folded shapes pattern across the chest from Asics. The red uniform has a blue collar with blue shorts.

The hosts Japan are using Mizuno’s “Diversity Graphic” as the background for their colours. The “Diversity Graphic” is also used in other sports for Japanese teams that are supplied by Mizuno. Diversity Blue and Energy Red are the names of the colours for their uniforms.

We now move on to those teams that did not play at the Volleyball Nations League.

Argentina’s Las Panteras are using a pattern as part of the design by Sonder, which was also used in Rio in 2016. The flag used on the chest is flapping, which is different compared to other nations which usually feature a static flag. The dark blue look is paired with gold shorts. You may also notice that there is a laurel motif on the uniforms.

Kenya, the African qualifier, are wearing a two-tone pattern with a chest diagonal from the left shoulder to under the right sleeve. The white tops have red side panels and are paired with red shorts with white side panels. The black uniforms have a white chest diagonal and side panels, while the red uniforms have a black chest diagonal and side panels.

We’ll now shift to the only team that swapped their flag for their country’s Olympic Committee logo.

ROC is using the Asics folded pattern design, which looks like origami. Their white look has blue collars that go all the way to the shoulders and are paired with blue shorts. Their single-colour red look has the collar as the deepest shade of red.

Lastly, five teams have introduced completely new designs for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.

Brazil changed their look slightly with a bigger green collar than was seen at the Volleyball Nations League. In the first match, Brazil wore green shorts, which is not their normal short colour, which is blue. Camila Brait as the libero wore the blue uniform with a yellow collar.

China made a change to their look as well with small triangles on the chest and back of the uniform. On the red primary uniforms, these added patterns are in a gradation from light red to orange. The blue uniforms are very different from what China has worn in past, normally a dark blue. On the blue, the patterns are visible with the light angles, but stay within shades of blue.

Las Reinas del Caribe of the Dominican Republic introduced a completely new look for the Olympics. The new look has a two-tone collar and divided lines that mimic the design and colours of the flag on the white uniform top that are paired with blue shorts. Libero Brenda Castillo stands out in a yellow or orange top with the same patterns.

Italy is using a sleeveless design which has rhomboidal motifs to enliven the lines. The Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) shield is outlined in gold. Additionally, there are very thin Italian flag stripes in the middle and along the side panels of the uniform.

USA are sporting a design from Adidas based loosely on the American flag of stars and stripes. On the white tops, the design is more visible than it is on the red or blue tops.
