The 3-1 (25-21, 25-23, 23-25, 25-22) victory over hosts Canada in the event's final match capped off a vastly successful week for the Cubans in Moncton, as just three days ago they had booked their tickets for the 2027 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Cup after ranking third at the NORCECA Championship.
With that, Cuba are set to make their eighth Olympic appearance and their first since they finished 11th in Rio ten years ago. From the current squad, only outside hitters Miguel Ángel López and Osniel Melgarejo and libero Román Garcia were part of that campaign.
The country's best result at the Games happened exactly 50 years ago, when they won their only Olympic medal, a bronze in Montreal 1976.
Cuba heavily relied on the firepower of their star outside hitters to overcome Canada in the match that determined the destination of the Olympic spot as while Marlon Yant topped all scorers with 25 points (21 kills, three aces, one block), captain López wasn't too far behind, registering 22 (19 kills, three blocks).
