German Alfredo Gomez has not been with the team that long, but was able to come in and do an excellent job, leading Argentina to another final four finish at the FIVB Volleyball Men’s U21 World Championship.
Gomez started off slow in the first two matches against co-semifinalists Bulgaria and Iran, but in Argentina’s match against Brazil, he scored in double figures and followed it up with a 28-point performance against Belgium.
The 20-year-old found his rhythm and continued to produce double-digit performances in the succeeding matches.
“I was selected to the Argentina national team about a year and a half ago, at age 19. And since then I have played in competitions like the South American Games and now, in this U21 World Championship.” Gomez said.
“Being part of the national team is really something that all volleyball players dream of.”
